Just a quickie. I love my Van Halen model with all my heart - I bought it new, it has played like a dream for years and I'd never sell it. However, I can't help but notice from the photos that have been posted that mine has one of the plainest tops and fewer birds eyes in the neck than just about any others. I appreciate that you can't tell a tree to grow the same as another, but can't help but feel a bit cheated as I paid full whack for a brand new EBMM guitar and it is quite a plain Jane. Is it just pot luck what quality the top and neck are (obviously I know you can order premium tops on Axis now) - how does the factory decide what wood is used on which instruments?
