Anyone out there done a retrofit on a MM with a Kahler? I remember playing with one of these in the 80's, and they were like butta.

Dave Larue has one installed on one of his older basses. They require routing to the body so once it's done there is no turning back. It would also reduce it's resale value but hey it's your guitar and post pics here if you end up doing it.

Well, ideally I'd like to have one of the JP trems on a Silo, but I'm not aware of such a bird...

It's been 20 years since I fooled around with a Kahler, but I remember it was a lot better for a palm muter like me, plus it was just so smooth compared to the Floyd. I need a floater as well, so that's another reason I'm curious.

Now as far as aesthetics are concerned, the EBMM trems are beautiful.

I remember a local "guitarist's pro shop" talked me into installing a Kahler (against my better judgement)

Blech!

I'd stick with a MM trem-ever since cleaning, lubing and slightly floating my trem, it stays in very nice tune.

I was always under the impression all the cams and springs involved sapped the sustain out of your guitar big time.

Not always. Trem blocks can actually add sustain and effect tone is a good way. I don't use trems but still prefer trem guitars, usually - not floaters, though.
