It's so great to hear there are so many lefties that play righty. I know about SM & BP and all, but it's so reassuring to know that the mutant / retard gene that makes lefties PLAY lefty only affects a very unfortunate few.

My daughter is a lefty, but..................................... I think she would naturally be a righty. When she was 2, about the time she was learning to write, she broke her right thumb. It was in a cast for a while, and in the meantime she learned to write left handed.
12 years later, she does some things lefty like writing, but most other things she does righty like throw a ball and play a guitar. I honestly think that if she didn't break her thumb at 2 years old, she would be totally right handed like the rest of the family. (There are very few leftys on both my side and the wife's of the family)
So, I am not suggesting you break your son's thumb. But, you Aussies are a wild bunch..... maybe I shouldn't have said anything.

yeh there's also a couple SF boys, Michael Hedges and Billy Joe Armstrong who are lefty and play righty. It doesnt hit everyone but I was lost, my dad being a guitar teacher for many years tried everything to get me to play righty and wouldnt let me play lefty; but I couldnt learn for the life of me and it actually turned me away from playing for a while untill i gave learning backwards a try.

The word "sinister" is actually the Latin word for "left." Being a lefty was considered evil in those times, or something like that, so that's why sinister means something along the lines of evil. I'm not sure what the whole story is, but it's true! You can use this to your advantage somehow, maybe make up stories about how the lefties were caught and stoned to death during Roman times to scare him into being a righty.
The best of luck to you and your son during this difficult time, but it could be just a phase. I went through my whole Thomas the Tank Engine phase, maybe he's just going through a lefty phase, kids are weird like that.
