i was talkin to dudley once about my 2 morse 11/50 & 23/50 made in early 87.....& he said he used conversion varnish.

I Love the older EBMM finished/ lacq'd necks.

My '86 has a lacquered neck - pretty sure it's nitro due to a little checking on it and the way the color has aged (gotten a little darker).

i'm pretty sure the late 80s necks are lacquered since my '88 has a completely worn in neck with many bare spots and yet the neck on my '89 has a yellow tinge to it like some of my dad's early 60's guitars that he says used to be clear when they were new

what ever it is finished with, I love my late 80s four bolt stingrays
