I finally got the Axis Sport that I won on eBay last week.

Sounds and feels great! I'm not sure if the pickups are original or not, but they sound good. I thought all the pickups were the cream and black zebras, but I've seen pics of other Sports with the all-black humbuckers.

The guitar is definitely a player. It's got some dents, cracks, and pick scrapes all over the place. I think it gives it a little character. (It also makes me wonder what the previous owner did to this guitar . . .:D)

My only issue with it is that the trem arm angle is a little tight. It swings a little too close to the vol knobs and the 5-way switch. It's one of the screw-in arms. Anybody know where I can get a replacement????

I don't know about the trem arm, but I know where you can send it to be "watched" next time you go out of town ;) :p

Hey Tony, glad you won it, sweet looking guitar.

I'm pretty sure that the trem will be a push in type, it might just be that they lost the original arm, so it's been replaced with a screw in one. Both my '97 Sports have the push in arm.

Congratulations.

The pickups are likely stock. My Axis Sport also has black bobbin pickups and Im the only owner. Apparently, they changed to black p/ups near the last few runs of this gtr. Mine is a 2002.

They also stopped recessing the neck plate. Request a born on date from the serial number.

I believe the trem bar tension adjustment screw is under the top plate like on any other MM gtr w/a vintage trem. Uses a 1.5 mm hex key.

Its probably a pop in bar like mine.

Thanks guys. You may be right . . . the bar might be a pop-in. This is a 1998 model, and I don't know if EBMM used pop in or screw in at that time. I'll CS a call and see if I can get a new trem arm for it. The arm screws in easily like it is threaded. Maybe CS can help me figure that one out.

As far as the pickups being stock, I don't really know. There was another Sport model for sale on eBay the same time as this one, and it had black hb's. But, I've seen just as many with zebras. I think guitarball has a used one that has zebra pickups.

I might also see if I can get a set of stock humbuckers for the Axis. I don't know if CS will let people buy them. If I can't, I'll just go the Dimarzio Tone Zone-Air Norton route. OR whichever set matches the original Axis pickups.

I'm trying to decide if the pickguard needs to be a different color. I can't tell of it was white, and it's mellowed into cream, or if it's been cream colored the whole time. I've always thought the black pickguards looked cool.
