hey guys hows it going. I'm taking a break right now as I practice some exercises on my pet cuz i was starting to notice something odd for the first time since i've started playing years ago.... . The veins on my left hand seem to get biger u know, like swolen ( spelling?) and doesnt go away until I raise my hand above shoulder level.... and I have this weird feeling across the back of my hand to the middle of the back of my wrist right were the main vein goes thru.... and i can even see some veins poping out at the base of my fingers.....I dont think that is from fatigue unless my level droped considerately or my stamina perhaps... then well it is a fatigue problem, I practice whenever i can, but its not much tho. I used to practice a lot more. Anyway im gonna take a break I dont want to regret anything later u know... if u have any comments about thist or something similar happened to u, please let me know cuz this is freaky...

Go to a doctor, I know people will give you advice and have good intentions, but please go to a professional. Hope it's not serious. I get pins and needles down my arms constantly so I can understand your concern.

I had RSI really bad years ago. I was gigging 5 nights a week and the stage is most times in the worst spot, like right under the air conditioning.
My current problem is not related to playing , it's more stress related. I'm learning to be more relaxed which actually helps with my playing. I guess if anger drives you it could be related? ;)

Hey man, you just have to build up the stamina again. The vein popping out thing has happened to me on many occasions, and I thought my hand would explode. It also depends on the position and posture of your whole body and the hands of course. That is something important to look into as well. Another very good thing is to stretch your hands and fingers before you start playing, like Petrucii demonstrates in Rock Discipline. But what I think it is, is intense practicing, which is GOOD. Keep it up, but take some restes when you feel your hand cant take it anymore, and THAN stretch it out as well. I find it usefull sometimes to just lay my left hand on the table FLAT and just relax it that way. Anyway, that's my little lesson lol :D . Hope it helps  .

No problem buddy :) . Thats why we are all here afterall arent we? To help each other and have nice discussions about geetars that no one else would comprehend. Anyway, the stuff I said helps me a good amount. Especially the stretching and relaxing the hand. Oh yea, another thing is to make sure your shoudlers and your whole arm stays as relaxed as possible. It will be much easier to play if your shoulders arent all tense and scunched up.

Yeah thats a big issue for me, When im playing slowly, y know when I start practicing around 80 bpm to warm up, i really focus on the position and status of my arms and shoulders cuz when I start to speed up I get pretty tense, like I seem to be dragging my fingers instead of keeping a smooth motion from note to note, specialy on legato runs, so im starting pretty slow and start to build up now, yesterday I stayd like and hour at the same speed cuz i wanted to be totally and completely comfortable, of course I took several breaks in between, and today I see the results so I have to keep it up if I dont want to go back to zero by monday, but I do find it hard to stay relaxed

I know what you are saying dude! a few weeks ago I realised that my whole picking technique was bad  When I was picking fast I automatically started to pick with my elbow, not wrist! My elbow tens up, and I've read that could be dangerous if you are doing it for a long time,

So anyway I started form the beginning, and I was totally crushed that 5 years of playing went for nothing!! How wrong was I!! I started playing with the metronome and after a week I made a bigger progress than in whole last year!!

So keep it up, and watch your bad habits and unwanted tension

Do what Colin said.....go to a doctor. You never know and it "might" be something that can be remedied quickly and easily. No need to take a chance.
