I am here as a huge Ernie Ball Musicman fan and I would like to convince the powers-that-be to make the John Petrucci model available for us left handed players. Anybody who would love to see this happen, please reply to this post. Maybe if we get enough people to request it, they could do a one time run for those of us who want one. let's get this rally going!!!

Don't worry, I got this one.

There's a couple of reasons why a left handed Petrucci model has never been offered. I should know, because like you (except last year) I was nosing around for the same thing:

1.) Demand is simply not high enough. To warmly and accurately quote Big Poppa, about 3% of guitars are left handed. That is simply not a profitable venture, no matter which way you slice it.

2.) The bridge is a custom job that was created specifically for the JP guitars. It would be a very cost-intensive venture to create one left handed, and again, the deman for it would not surpass the costs.

3.) The JP is a model is designed to accomodate the artist in question. Since JP doesn't play left handed, then that means there is less of a chance. An "Okay" from JP would need to be had in order to proceed, plus a lot of funds to create said guitars.

Sidenote: The LUKE left handed was created because of some left handed golf player who donated a large sum of cash to the Casey Ball Foundation (correct me if I'm wrong) and through a stringof related events, the guitar surfaced.

Don't push on the boys and girls at EBMM to overstretch themselves any further. If it's meant to happen, then one day it will. Otherwise, go buy an Axis Super Sport, Silhouette Special and LUKE and be happy.

Sheesh.

I voted "No" just to be honest and for the sake of accurate demographics. I don't need a lefty version, but I do sympathize. This poll is going to be biased, because I suspect lefties would come here to vote yes in greater numbers than the righties (or those lefties who play righty) who would even bother with the thread. Righties don't have a vested interest in voting "No." So, respondents to this thread are most likely going to generally self-select themselves into the "yes" category. The answers would probably be skewed. This is a matter of simple statistics.

One other thing that jimmy-jengas did not mention is that all the preamp circuitry would also have to be made in a mirror image. Sure, they could do everything that would be needed to make a lefty JP, but they probably wouldn't make their money back.

To me as I understand it, the problem lies maily in the bridge. Perhaps, and it's just a perhaps, a compromise could be offered.

A lefty JP offered in a choice of only maybe 2 or 3 of the most popular colours. I.e. Mystic Dream, Pearl Redburst etc.

No piezo and a vintage trem. Thing is though, there may be some right handed players interested in something like that. But, at least you'd get the body shape, the neck and the pick ups.

YES, thanks!

Listen man its probably the most helpful because thats the only way your gonna play JP guitar. so either that or Get one built it still wont be a JP or a Music man I dont want to be a jerk or anything but it wont happen, If there was a gutiar i simply couldnt get that i wanted id get pretty mad about it but if i was lefty guitarist i would learn righty from the beggining jsut because of the fact that their arent many left guitars. i know a few people who are leftys and play right hand guitars. If all else fails man yuo can pull a hendrix

During my 7-year tenure as an instructor, I did try and encourage new players (I mean brand new, can't even play a G chord) to play right-handed regardless of which hand was their strong hand simply for the reason that is the purpose of this thread: left-handed guitars aren't as readily available.

Honestly, if I were a lefty, I'd probably force myself to play righty. :\

Maybe you should learn to play right handed

I figured both of these quotes were worth making mention of. I went to my local dealer and had the pleasure (displeasure?) of borrowing a JP6 in mystic dream for a couple of days. It was a right handed model. I paid the 10 dollars it cost to get to new sets of strings... one to string it left, and one to string it back to right when I was done. Here's my observations:

I think the trem is such a big part of the guitar. It is what every Floyd user SHOULD be playing with. It was easy to use, and was smooth as silk, and when resting my hand on it for some palm-muting, it was conducive to comfort and ease as well. I found it diffficult to get higher up on the frets though, and the contour on the back was kind of wonky for me.

This was my idea for a compromise: make a JP6 left handed, but throw on a right handed bridge. I found that the upside town trem was actually more comfortable to use than the regular left handed trems I find on most guitars. It's kind of a throwback to how SRV put on a lefty trem to be like Jimi. This would look very interesting, as well as cut costs for the company and us lefties who would be interested. With this notion in mind, we would get our JP6L which would be unique as it is, and then on top of that, we'd get sort of a frankenstein version, which is even more strange! If you ask me, THAT is a compromise that would be worth considering.

The only real cost that would be extra would be a left handed body, as ffrom my understanding the neck contour is even on both sides. And hell, and upside down headstock, just to cut costs even more. Were this to be a limited forum-only guitar, I'd order one within a minute of the suggestion becoming real.

What do you all think of that?
