That is the question. For those of you that are ordering or thinking of ordering a Petrucci model, lefty of course, which model did/are you go/going for and why? I think I would go with a bfr, I like the wood choices better and its bigger without the arm scoop. Soundwise though, I'm not sure. So for the sake of future potential buyers, to bfr or not to bfr?

I ordered a mystic dream because i've wanted one for years. I'm a huge DT fan and I NEED to have that one first.
I will definitely go with a BFR next. It's really the perfection of the JP signature guitar. He has come a long way since the first JP model. I was watching their "Scenes from NY" DVD last night, which was taped in 1999, and I imagine he was using the first prototype of the guitar. It didn't even have his signature trem yet.

To answer your question, yes buy a BFR and a regular one too. :)

Ok, IMHO the BFR is superior in rythym qualities, when he strikes a power chord it is brutal and crisp, the standard has a much better lead tone, I think that is displayed best on the LTE albums, I really want to hear some LTE with a BFR. Piezo is a toss up, I think I would have to hear both side by side to decide what I'd like better. For me I have a mahogony guitar, dont have a basswood, but I had the combination of basswood and a rosewood neck with the ASS so I know how great it sounds. Plus I want the neck to be the focal piece of art since I am paying the extra change for it. So standard wins for me.

To me, I'm used to a bigger body guitar, so that is particularly a good point in the bfr, also I don't mind painted necks, I don't sweat really so its not a problem. I also don't like the scoop of the standards. All the signs lead to the bfr, but I'd still have to play both of them to know for sure.

He wasn't using MusicMan yet during the LTE albums. Same goes for the Scenes from a Memory album. That was all Ibanez.

I think this lead vs rhythm has more to do with the amp than the guitar. He used the MESA Mark IIC+ on LTE and SFAM and the Mark IV on SC (where he first used the BFR). He used the standard on TOT and his solo album Suspended Animation and I think both had killer yet different rhythm tracks. With that said, I'd get a standard. But I don't play lefty, although I'm a lefty for most other things.

 oops, well still I think his lead tone in Systematic Chaos lost some of his distict Petrucciness, not saying it's bad though, thats just how musicians progress, the wah tone on ItPoE part 2 melts my face.

Some people have said the bfr is brighter than the standard, some say the opposite. Your opinions?

Also, yes I know some of this has already been said, but I wanted to put all this bfr vs standard topics and questions in one thread for easy access and comparison, so bare with me! Thanks
