Went to a mutual friend's studio over the weekend to chew the fat, and what do I see on the wall, a beat up black Bongo 4 H. I played this guy for the better part of an hour, what a tone! Not quite the massiveness of the HH, nor the added nuances and spunkiness of the HS, it was just there; well defined and powerful. Set it (flat) and forget it! So I made him an offer

It was declined, unfortunately...a guitarist who loves bongos, whowouldathunkit.

After owning several Bongos, I have never owned a single H. I have to get me a fiver. I kinda dig a beat up one, too.

There have been others on this forum lauding the Bongo single H models. They are almost a different animal due to the different preamp and bridge pickup placement.

More than that though, basses with one big bridge humbucker are Music Man's bread and butter. It was a decade or so before the HS and HH models came out, and I still think the Stingray H and Sterling H are the best basses EBMM makes.

So what if they only have one pickup? with the active EQ, that's all you need.

Yeah Ed Friedland is great. Do not know why but I'm interested in single H bongo 5 from recent days. I am completely satisfied with my ancient SR5 but if I will be able to buy one more axe someday - it will be Bongo 5H.

1995 is not ancient. I have a bunch of guitars from the 90s and all are still in great shape. I don't know what kind of environment my SR5 HS was kept in, but there is actually fading in the finish that is pretty noticeable when I replaced the strap buttons and had the pickguard off, and it's only a 2007. It actually makes it look really good though, as it's got a kind of washed out look on the body.

It's a used bass. "Nuff said. Most of my guitars are 10+ years old. My SR4 is 9, and I have some other basses that are pretty old as well.
