I guess I'm NEW compared to some of the forum members,a year ago I didn't have ANY EBMM's today~~ I'm holding steady at 21 and 1/2 ~,The 1/2 is the WHOLE reason for the post .I ordered from my local GC 7+ months ago a steve morse y2d purple sunset in QUILT ~I TRIED a month later to order a axis on quilt orange trans ,I was told at that time there is NO promises of flame or quilt from my guitar sales person I TRUELLY thought it was a ploy to sell me what THEY had ,so i opted to wait it out & get one elsewhere(still looking~did pickup a flame top in the mean time!) but to my suprise the guitar I ordered came in last week, and I asked the salesperson to "check it's quilt" before i drive 2 hours to pay my remaining $$$ (that's why I say I'm a 1/2 owner)To her surpise and NOT so much mine( I have no luck!) it was flame, already have one of those ~now she's getting the same response "no promise"on flame or quilt?I was wondering BP or whoever would like to chime in whats the reasoning and/or purpose behind this??I'm MORE than willing to wait and more than willing to pay but is there something I'm missing here?I have 50+ guitars and can say without reservation the EBMM's are my go to guitars they have always been BEYOND my expectations in terms of quality and customer service, should I just get my money back,or wait it out??IS THERE THERE A QUILT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL??

I get the knobs mostly from stew mac~
Stewart-MacDonald: Everything for building and repairing stringed instruments!
They have lots of great tools and parts aren't overpriced and offer quanity discounts,I opt for the abalone tops they have pearl, wood etc. I'm a SUCKER for bling,FYI if you own a morse the pot shaft are larger than typical sized shafts so you'll need to drill the holes bigger DON'T try to force it you'll only bust somthing!I really with I would have found EBMM earlier in my life,I have lots of guitars besides them but they tend to sound better and play WAYY better than most of my others~ i can't believe other companies are getting $2000 for a white bolt on neck JEM guitars now i have one and in no way are they worth it!I preach to ANYONE I know that plays~ check out the EBMM line no matter what you play theres a guitar for you, NOW as for the AL Yes I've been looking but I really have to find a stunner because it will have to overcome the looks issue!I'm not so hip on the shaPE but then again i'm not CrAzY over the axis but still own 10 so it's more about function than fashion! I don't mean to offend anyone but the AL is a bit different than your typical guitar, but having owned over 30 strats,6-7 currently,I owe it to myself to pick one up!If you'd like to waste some time and check out my OTHER non ebmm go to:

I'm pretty proud of my collection NOW I just need to have more time to play 'em!These are my current guitars I WISH I started keeping pics of ones I had,but now I do,I have a few more coming a smy2d QUILT hopefully?!?!?
a herc fede that I just got back after a year in the paint booth and sooner or later a axis trans orange quilt and SoMeKiNd of AL?

Man, that's one heck of a collection! You're either independtly wealthy or single :D

I just ordered an EBMM back in November. I was told the same thing regarding tops when I bought my Axis SS from an EBMM authorized dealer here on this forum (a very respected dealer). So, I don't think GC was feeding you a line.

I too hope to get a quilt, but I've been preparing myself for the fact that I could very well end up with a flame top. FWIW, I think the Axis in question looks great. I think it's your file: aypic10104.

I'm not rich OR single just a working fool!( i play the ebay game pretty well 90%of my collection are "used" people are giving these things away now??I concider it an investment ,next week I'm goint to TRY a family pic of all them at once!) To answer the question on the pickups, I changed most out to tone zones the d sonics aren't really anything special,at least to me but JP sure makes them work! The older models use to come without d sonics the newers come standard with them, still waiting on BP or someone from corp. to chime in on the quilt/flame question,Probably getting teady for NAMM lucky stiffs!

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but here's how I remember it.

The ONLY guitar that EBMM ever allowed a choice of Flame or Quilt was the Y2D. It caused problems because they couldn't foretell what kind of grain was going to be in stock at any given time. Y2D production was getting held up at times waiting for the desired type of maple to show up, and that just doesn't fly with the way they run the factory. That's why the BFRs cannot be specified quilt or flame either.

As for an Axis, I'm pretty sure they NEVER allowed a choice of quilt/flame, it was always luck of the draw. You could pay $500 upcharge for a guaranteed best-quality top, but I'm not sure they're even doing that anymore.

Shredder, thats a hell of a collection you have there. Your natural Axis and Purple Axis are 2 of the sickest guitars I've ever seen.
