Ok I'm looking at either the DM4 (distortion modeller) or the ToneCore line like the Uber Metal, Crunchtone or Constrictor...thanks!

I've used both the distortion modeller and the ToneCore Ubermetal. The DM4 has the advantages of true bypass and a wide range of features and sounds (from distortion to fuzz and back again) which I found were really good. The only "problem" was that it took up a lot of room on my pedalboard and most of the features are contained in PODxt with a lot of other functions, which I eventually bought.

The Ubermetal is really solid, has three modes, Metal (80s sound), Pulverise (really pushed valve amp) and Insane (exactly!). It has a two level noise gate and good tone shaping controls. I didn't like the Metal setting; it was a bit thin. Pulverise is really good and Insane is number 2. It isn't true bypass and I found it to be noisy (even for a distortion pedal), especially when switched off. It eats batteries. The sounds whilst good are a bit "processed" (yes I know it's not a Triple Rectifier on 10). However, I think it is one of the best value distortion stompbox pedals on the market. I would recommend giving it a try before you buy.

Thanks OC...I'm fine with my V-Amp, but I need distortion, as opposed to Amp gain...I'm on a few over at Ebay!

Depending on how distorted your amp gets, the Zakk Wylde overdrive might be the answer. It's very hot, and adds a nice fatness to your tone. I love mine. You might want to check out the reviews on harmony-central.com

My current favourite is the new red Visual Sound Jeckyll and Hyde ultimate OD/distortion pedal. You've got the cool OD side and the extreme distortion side plus the fact that you can run them together for meltdown. I think it's really good value for money (2 in 1), it is well built and is keenly priced.

I'll have to check that one also...thanks guys...great input...I saw another one today, infact I heard a clip it was called a Catallinbread Teaser Stallion:

Subtle Overdrive to Blistering Gain... And that is just the conservative channel. Engage Channel Two and you step into the preliminary understandings of chaos... Imagine standing between two mirrors and pondering the infinite reflections of yourself. Um.. What the heck does this got to do with stompboxes? Well to some it up Channel Two re-amplifies, re-distorts, then re-amplifies and re-distorts the signal from Channel One over and over again. The result is an incredibly interactive and never-before-experienced sound.

Soundclip

Oooooooooo I'm getting all creamy!

DOD Durability

Raz,

I can't speak for their whole line, but I had a few DOD pedals for many, many years and they held up just fine. I think I had their yellow distortion (FX-something?) pedal for at least a decade, probably longer.

I still have a bass chorus pedal from DOD that has been around for 15 years or more, and it's in working condition.

Hey Steviorino...I just purchased a vintage NOS DOD preamp Overdrive, but based on your experience I'll keep my eyes peeled for more DOD products...thanks!
