A lot of you guys have your favourite EBMM guitars...

What I'm wondering is what makes the one you have better than the ohter ones?

I see a lot of people living and dying by their AL's, or Luke's, Silo's, Axii, and JPs...what do you guys personally prefer in between each model?

The ones I've got I like for different reasons. They're all great in their own way.

But the one I love best is my old original Morse. There's just something about it, the custom neck profile (thanks Tommy), the piezo/switching it's got and the sounds I can get out of it that make it my go to guitar. It makes me the most "me".

Again jagged I am new to the site and only purchased my first EBMM in December 2006.
But with that said I played these guitars back in 2004 at a guitar show in Dallas and thought what Kick Azz instruments but was out of my league at the time both price and skill.

Since then I am a little better at playing and now I am able to spend a little more on guitars.

I was drawn to the Luke because of pick up configuration (EMG) and how well it felt and played. Blows away the srat I traded to get the Luke. I also loved the JP and will buy one as well just great tones. The AL is not my style but still a great guitar. I have not had the chance to play the others but as my recent posts have shown I am looking to try a ASS, if it is what I think my Les Paul is toast.

But with all that said Luke Rules. Tones out the Azz both bright and dark!:)

Damn that was long winded!

I prefer Silo Specials in SSH because they sound great in a classic sorta way, are incredibly versatile, and I love their neck shape. They're also among the most affordable Balls.

I only own a Morse and a couple of JP's but have tried almost all the other EBMM 6 stringers. Each has a certain appeal, but if I'm forced to choose, I'd choose the JP.

Back in the immediate post-college days, I spent a good chunk of time teaching myself classical guitar and got used to the neck profiles of those types of guitars. To my hands, the JP neck most closely approximates the feel of the classical neck. The JP also comes with the greatest trem ever created, IMO. The day I first picked up my Black Sparkle JP I knew I wouldn't be playing any other brand cuz it felt like the guitar was made specifically for me.

My JP is certainly the go-to guitar. But my Y2D is fun to play, too. And I'd love to have an Albert Lee and an Axis someday. (And I've got a Bongo on the way... and I'd like a Sterling too.)

Anyway, for me it's the deep body contour ("scoop") on the JP that makes it the most comfortable, and definitely the tremolo bridge is the most brilliant one ever designed. I really get bummed out when I reach for a trem on any other type of guitar... even my Y2D with Floyd. That JP bridge is just the best! You can go nuts with the trem and it stays in tune.. no locking nut.. great locking tuners. The best.

Hey

Can't go wrong with a Sub 1, I'm not into all that fancy stuff (although it is nice) just love the simplicity of my Sub 1 planks no frills but still first class!

i'm a stratty kinda guy, love single coil tones, but need a humbucker a lot of the time for other things. So thats why i bought my Luke, then the Silo Special. They got me hooked on Ernie Ball guitars, then i ent nuts and sold 13 of my other guitars and stocked up on balls. Ibanez and Fender sell really well 2nd hand!!!!

Now i just like em all, but the Albert is the king of single coil axes, so i'm loving it enormously. When i gig i take the Luke and Silo Special, as its mostly rock stuff i end up playing at pubs, not so much clean stuff.

The JP and the y2d are my "go-to" workhorse guitars. If I am looking for specific sounds I grab something else and keep going through the product line until I match the sound from the amp to the sound in my head.

I like the way the JP feels for lead and the way the y2d makes me play rhythm.

Generally I use the JP for leads and the y2d for the dirt behind. Super clean tones generally get the AL treatment in a split/notch position. Also, I usually write on an acoustic because I like having a full sound. If I can make it sound good on acoustic, I will like it on electric. If it sounds bad to begin with, well, that's a problem. When I pick up a guitar, the feel and sound of that particular instrument generally sets the tone for my playing. Once in a while I use the AL for leads and the JP for cleans.

Example:
On this particular clip I wanted to get a somewhat thick backing without being too heavy, and put a fairly full lead tone on top of it. Per the usual, the y2d and JP were right there.

acoustic - piezo & mic simult
y2d - bridge, mid-gain
JP - bridge, high-gain, delay

I've been fooling around with several versions of this song, in various tunings and keys - Right now I'm leaning towards tuning a full step down to D. That would mean using the 20th Anniversary Silhouette for the whole thing. :D

ps, this proves that it's also a good idea to make sure your intonation is properly set & that you are in tune

My main guitar is purple and it has the EVH bridge pickup. Simple as that. What more do I possibly need in life?

For years I played my EVH in fact I did over 1000 gigs just with that guitar. I ended up retiring it from active duty and now have fallen in love with the Y2D. Not sure if I've ever used the term die by though.

The Luke for me, it's just perfection, it does everything, feels great, looks sexy, the EMG's are awesome, could l ask for more.

But the last couple of months l've been playing my Luke 2 more and more, and am really loving it, l used to use my Luke 1 all the time, and used the Luke 2 as a back up, but it's the other way round now.

Scott.
