Gotta say how much I love locking tuners. Changing strings on my guitars is a snap and takes no time at all!!!! Great stuff.

I am curious why they aren't used on the floyd equipped guitars????

Locking tuners rule indeed! Love the Schallers, they're so easy. Would also be easy on a guitar with locking nut, but I guess there is a cost/redundancy issue.

When I built my Warmoth I used a locking nut and locking tuners. They just make changing strings so much easier.

Yeah, I understand that, I was more thinking from the ease and convenience of changing strings

I use locking tuners with my locking nut on the Warmoth I built.. Great for changing the strings fast as you mentioned..

I agree ! I changed over to locking tuners on my Floyd Axis. I have to say it's much faster for changing strings. I wouldn't mind paying the extra difference with locking tuners for Floyd equipped guitars.

Locking tuners just cant be beat! I laughed at first when this thread started as we all know locking tuners mean nothing on a locked nut as far as tuning stability. But Mike just made me realize how much faster the string change would be, as well as some of you guys already being ahead of the game.

Where do you guys keep your Allen wrenches that saving a few turns on the tuning keys is a significant time savings?

Nearby, along with other tools. The only time I loosen my is to change strings or drop tune, If I do that, I have adjust the tremolo springs anyways. Plus I love to have guys ask me why have both (locking tuners / locking nut), then I just smile.

Break a string and youre DONE though. Need to bust open a new pack of strings to steal one...then you have a pack of strings minus one

Break a string with a Floyd equip guitar and all you do is unlock, unwind and re-attach in the saddle, tune, lock up, tune again and your good to go! I can do this in a minute or so....and I still have a FULL pack of strings ;)

FWIW, Suhr makes floyd equip guitars with also having locking tuners

If I break a string then I will usually replace all of them as well. Maybe not that second if it happened during a show but immediately after. I don't like having one string newer than the rest and strings aren't so expensive that it doesn't pay to keep them fresh.

Honestly I never really break strings often at all.

That's a pointy headstock ;)

I had an OLP that was having problems with the oem tuning machines - so I replaced em eith the locking ones... Loved em

With the EBMMs I have I found lockers go n every guitar I own... First upgrade I do if it doesn't already have em LOL

Yea I really don't know how any guitar can be without locking tuners! Really the best thing ever...with my hardtail Y2D it takes 5 minutes to change them all. I love the schallers...but I've been interested in the newer Hipshot locking tuners. They're supposed to be really smooth.

just curious.

I have seen it done. Actually Chris Broderick's old custom Ibby's all had Floyds with locking tuners and no locking nut. I believe he does use a locking but on his Jackson's now. It is definitely not as stable, but it works.
