Except yours doesn't have an all rosewood neck... Hmmmmmmm

I didn't want to go into the whole neck swap story and muck up the running theme, lol.
Still though, that combo IS one of my favorites…the other combo I'm fond of is the Olive Gold with the swapped roasted neck, ha. Better?

Well, for the record I would consider the RM neck... EXCEPT there is deal breaker in play. I cannot play a guitar that is Bodhi, (bodi... a lady, uh Bohdi..?) blue. The current run of color choices on this guitar is enough to make a man drink. To each his own. That makes the 2012 versions the only options on the list. Possibly tradition sunburst?

This one sounds relatively simple and painless to find out if you like it assuming your buddy lives near you.

Just bring your amp and try it out, or have him bring over or loan you the guitar for a spell.

If you bond, buy it.
If not, keep looking

The HSS Luke III with a rosewood neck and fretboard is one of the top tier guitars that can be found on the planet.

The Olive Gold color is also amazing, depends so much on the light that hits it. Once again it's like owning several guitars. (Check my live picture)

I forgot to mention that the Luke III is not only extremely versatile but ultimately comfortable and good looking.
The rosewood neck / profile are fantastic.

The modern neck pickup has got balls but is still a single coil. (And I'm/was a vintage type of guy).

The boost is the kind of thing that you can live without when your guitar isn't equiped with. But once you have one, you tend to use it all the time to add dynamics to what you play!

GO GET IT.

Note that the Luke3 HH might as well be my next guitar if I like the PDN features : )

Hi Guys.. first time on the forum. Just purchased a Black Luke III HSS with All Rosewood neck for an unreal price last month at Guitar Center. They wanted to move it out quick and I got an unreal deal on it. It's a dream guitar, and the more I play it, the more I love it. I can get any tone I want out of it and it's so comfortable to play. The stock vintage tremolo shocks me the most, as this guitar won't go out of tune!! No more Floyd Rose headaches!! My wife's uncle plays guitar as well and is very picky about how a guitar plays. I've let him play numerous guitars I own, like my Les Paul Custom Lite 1987 guitar, and he'd play it for a while and just go, "uhh.. it's pretty good, but doesn't play like I'd want it to".. lol So I was very reluctant to let him play the Luke III simply because I though he wouldn't like it, but to my amazement he said it played as equally well as any guitar he owns, and wanted to buy it from me.. lol So I knew right then I had a keeper. He was also blown away by the sound, 12db boost, and the vintage tremolo that stayed in tune. Plus, the rosewood neck is killer good. I'm definitely a Music Man fan now!

Hey Guys, thanks so much for all the opinions. They are truly appreciated. I got to play my first Petrucci today... and ... OMG!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY??????? these guitars are "gateway drugs"!!!!! Sterling, PB, or whatever the hell i'm supposed to call you.... SERIOUSLY!!!!!!! I've got seven guitars hanging on the wall... and they are all freakin embarrassed right now. They have been called out and found to be lacking in nearly every way.

Someone made a comment earlier in this thread about there being a reason most of you have a long list of guitars in your signature... well, consider me "newbie informed".

HOLY CRAP.

Does anyone else agonize over these choices the way I am??? I'm down to the HH Traditional Sunburst of the HSS Olive Gold, both with all RW Neck. I'm so conflicted I feel Schizophrenic ! :)

Oh yes, definitely. It's like trying to choose between desserts after dinner :) You just have to take the plunge and know either way you'll have something sweet!

Here's my Olive Gold/Roasted (neck swapped my rosewood neck for his roasted neck with forumite Tollie as an experiment. We both loved the results but as a caveat, I did love the original config just as much.)

Mario, that is a sick looking Luke!!

Op- I agree with Mario. You can't lose either way. However, pick up the gold one if you love the color. You can alway add a 2nd HH luke later.

As you are calling for our advice on your choice... I might add that I'd hate to have a sunburst on a Luke. Get the discontinued Olive gold/rosewood combination.
