Its time for a MM guitar to bring up my 6 string arsenal. I really like the JP tone, nice and heavy in the riffs yet very clean and melodic when he goes into a solo. I was wondering if any of the other MM guitars shared these characteristics? I'd pick up a JP6, and who knows I guess I still might but I'm thinking the pickup selector would be right in my way while my right arm is flailing around :). I hit the switch on my current guitar enough already haha.

Depending on how much you 'flail' while playing the pickup selector's location shouldn't be a big deal. It's a sturdy feeling switch unlike the Les Paul or PRS type switches. The JP's switch really 'clicks' when you hit it so you have to give it a good flick with your pinky (or pick) to get it to change positions. The PRS or LP type is easy to move and I could see how it would be annoying in the same place as the JP's. I actually hit the piezo switch by accident while playing - not the pickup switch. It's only when I'm really getting into it though.

I think the JP is kind of a unique guitar in many aspects compared to the other EB guitars. The bridge, neck profile, and pickups are all pretty different from other models. I think it is a near perfect guitar IMO!

The Axis has some killer tones. You can do a youtube search for "Beautiful Creatures." There's a video for the song "Wasted." DJ Ashba writes really hooky riffs, and his tones are wicked.

Whats the deal with the forearm cutaway on the JP6 BFR? Tt doesn't have the scoop, has JP changed his production guitars or is this simply a BFR feature?

The scoop was dropped because of the figured maple top on the BFR.

See how the top is cut out if there is a scoop? The above picture was a prototype...

I have another question regarding the JP6.

I notice the neck is an extra 1/16th wide at the nut. I know this sounds minimal but a minimal change can make for major playability differences.

Is the feel of the string spacing noticeably wider? Better question, is it wider at all or is that just extra edging on both ends of the E strings?

Unfortunately the music store around here only stocks the Silhouette and the Axis so I wont have the opportunity to get my hands on one before purchase. However I really like the feel of both the silhouette and the axis. The neck has also been referred to as "much thinner" how much are we talking? I don't mind a thinner neck but I'd rather it not be completely flat.

think like ibanez wizard feeling only not as thin and faster. it feels really different than the axis. the axis has this vibe that makes you want to really take hold and keeps bringing my hand down to the lower frets while the jp needs to be feathered by your hand and really comes alive in the upper register. in the end i only kept the jp and it doesnt feel too flat but ive got pretty big hands. i could talk about it for days.

I think the JP neck is perfect! The wizard neck is FLAT but the JP neck actually has a roundness to it. It's a very thin D type shape. VERY comfortable IMO. The BFR neck is just a hair thicker, but still comfortable.

The JP has the distinction of having the widest at the nut and the flattest radius of all the EBMM guitars.

I prefer both. It can be set up with incredibly low action due to the flatter radius, perfect for what JP does. It may or may not suit you personally, but there are plenty of other guitars to choose from.

As someone else mentioned, the Axis and Super Sport both have a pretty agressive tone too... although it has a 10" radius vs. 15" for the JP.

I have a Silo and a JP and the string spacing of the JP definitly also feels wider than the Silo's.

The JP's Steve Morse and Lukes all do heavy tones really well. But personally I don't like the look of the lukes at all. The JP's are near perfect IMO and the MorseY2D is amazing as well.

i think my axis is a bit more ballsy and chuggy then my morse. The morse is balanced and polished . I am not a fan of emg's but alot of people do.
