Hi everyone! New to the forum

Ive been playing guitar for 4-5 years now using a cheap "beginner" guitar, and am now looking to buy my second and first expensive guitar.

I play alot melodic prog metal(like Dream Theater), but also pop/funk.
The models im considering is: Silhouette HSH Hardtail, Steve Morse Signature Model1, or a Silhouette and swap the pups out for Liquifire and Crunch like in the JP models.

Which one of these do u think will suit metal best? Gna order from web and dont have them available locally for testing.

thx in advance

Is there a reason you haven't included a JP in that list? Also if you have a dealer near by the bet thing to do is try them all to see what suits you best. Either way you cannot go wrong with Musicman guitars haven't tried a bad one yet!

I hate to say this but you can't go wrong with any of them. The Morse is super flexable and he even does county type stuff with it. The HSH setup is always amazingly flexable. If can get those in between tones that you can only get with a single coil in the middle position.

You can always get one put the JP pups in it and get a diff middle pickup and wire get creative with the wiring so in the 3 position it gets both humbuckers in parallel instead of just the middle single coild alone.

You're going to hear this over and over but they are all great candidates for metal, as well as many other styles.
I personally play metal on my HSH Silhouette and it sounds great, and I haven't even swapped the pickups yet. (I may never!)

If I were you you, I would look for a second hand JP6 around (if money is an issue which I am assuming it is) because it is my favorite EBMM model for metal. It has the thinnest neck, and the best tremolo system ever. If you can pick one up with a piezo pickup, then that gives you even that much more versatility for your clean tones.

I think it really depends on what is comfortable for you to play. There definitely is no wrong way to go with any of these guitars, but they all feel significantly different from one another. The Morse has no countours and slightly bigger body...also 22 frets instead of 24. The Silo feels a bit smaller and compressed feeling but comofortable. The Morse feels the best to me out of all of them, even though I get along with almost all the EBMMs. They are all comfortable, but some have a stronger preferance for a certain feel than others. That may influence your decision as well? Also you may consider the JPX? I think it is more versatile since it has a 5 way switch. Guitar Center also has some limited WICKED Blackburst JPX BFR guitars with black harware which look amazing!

The Morse is incredibly flexible for different styles and sounds - and the humbuckers are pretty hot so it'll feed into a high gain amp quite nicely (i.e for metal). You gotta go try a bunch out though - from my experience they are all equal, yet different. Once you know what you like, if your strapped for cash - keep an eye out for a used one, they are around. Good luck

Don't forget the HH Al, or ASS and even s Reflex. They can melt faces with the best or them.

Are you able to get access to them so you can feel em out first hand? That'll be the best way to decide. If not, what else are you looking for? Options, neck profile, wood tones etc.

Good luck with the hunt Repvik. Hang around on the forum and you will learn alot very quickly.

Where are you based ?
Watching many of the guys on youtube can give you a great insight into the typical sounds each guitars bring to the party.
As Steve Morse says his is like 'the swiss army knife' of guitars and will play almost anything

Cheers Baz
