My band was just involved in a collision with an 18 wheeler that drove through our trailer full of gear. My Warwick Double Buck got smashed to ****, and i was looking to replace it with a Sterling HH. I love my Stingray, and i wanted to have a Sterling as well.

Should I go for it?

Here are some pictures of the accident...

This one kills me to see my Stingray popping out of the bottom of the case, however it did prove that they're durable enough to get hit by a mack truck and still come out of the smashed case needing only a set up.

Hot damn, dude. I lost a bass last year in a car wreck, so I know how you feel.

The Sterling will have a slimmer neck than the Stingray and the Warbrick, but it's very comfortable and a pleasure to play on. I'd say go for it, especially since you just lost one of your basses.

Good vibes to you and hoping you and your band mates can quickly replace your trailer and any lost gear.

WOW!, man...sorry to hear that. Insurance is good, but a situation like that is always a bit sickening.

I say go for the Sterling...but what else did you expect to see here?...besides a few "Get a Bongo!"s

Oh, man, I'm so sorry that this happened to you! I've never had an instrument of mine destroyed. I hope you and your band are able to move comfortably forward on this problem. What I am impressed by, however, is that the ABS cases did their jobs. You are very fortunate that nothing else was damaged.

I'm also a Warwick owner (Corvette Std. 5), and frankly, I'm falling out of love with my bass and will soon be parting ways with it. You and I are on the same page, in that both of us want to leave Warwick for Music Man; perhaps, diabolically, the loss of the Warwick $$ could be a blessing in disguise.

I actually have an SR5 HH coming in the mail; they sound excellent and you can pretty much get them to do whatever you want in terms of tone. Now, I have never played a Sterling 5 ever, but the two-humbucker configuration is going to give you a lot of versatility. I also own a fretless Sterling 4 H, and that bass sounds incredible even with just one pickup.

Your back is also going to thank you for playing a non-Warwick instrument. I honestly believed that I could live with the fact that my Corvette Std. weighs about as much as a Buddha statue, but in the long run, I was way wrong. Add to this the problem of the hardware -- I had to replace the straplocks THREE TIMES!!! -- and their dreadful customer relations department, and you have the end of ownership.

Good luck in the future, for yourself and for your band. Keep everyone here posted on your progress of acquiring a new bass!

I was actually surprised the case did its job too, the second i saw it, i feared the worst.

The reason i was asking on here, is because i saw some horrific reviews on the sterling HH, but it cant be as bad as the dumb asses on harmony central said it was.

As for that Warwick, I loved it when I first got it, but soon after the nut broke, a tuning post was stripped, and saddles kept falling out of the bridge. It played nice, and sounded great, but was made like garbage. In contrast, my MM got hit by a truck and its still fine.

I'm probably just going to go for it, and get the Sterling HH in Black Cherry Burst, rosewood fretboard, and a matching headstock. The only thing i was worried about was ordering it online, because I'd prefer to try it out before I buy it.

Has anyone ordered online and been unhappy?

Broken nut, crappy hardware...the precise reason why I'm trying to get rid of my Corvette Std. A crying shame, but there's no point in prolonging the misery.

Check out bass central for a HUGE selection of Music Man basses.

Your ampegs are okay?

Amazing that the Stingray survived. Quite a testament to how hard it really is to kill one.

BTW, quite a few of the forumites have Sterling HHs (I don't) and love them. Bass Central does have quite the selection, generally - but don't neglect our beloved DuBaldo Music, operated efficiently and with great compassion by Pete DuBaldo.

Welcome to the new DuBaldo Music Center website!

Pete's a regular contributor here and takes good care of forum members.

Good luck with the Sterling - and sorry to see the carnage!

WoW - where do you play with those? Shea Stadium??

The pictures of your wreck (and rig) are scary. I love the line about your ray only needing a setup. Classic.

Oh, and we'd all like to see pics of that ray and the Sterling when you get it.

You've made one hell of an entrance. Welcome home!

The Sterling HH is my favorite MusicMan bass and I've owned every model.

+1 on the DuBaldos, if I'm buying new they get my business every time.

Pete is the Man (okay, maybe Nick is too... but I'll have to await confirmation on that). Seriouly, Bass Central is cool (gotten 2 basses from Beaver) but I've never had a transaction go down as smooth as it did with Pete. Unless BassCentral has it in stock and ready to go, I would HIGHLY recommend the DuBaldos!

BTW, the Sterling, in whatever pup config you decide on, is killer. The Harmony Central bad reviews seem to be off the mark by quite a ways (I do like the Sterling HS better than the HH but they are both monsters)

I have a few Sterlings and LOVE them. The HS and HH are both pretty amazing.

The last couple months I've really been digging the HH Sterling. it initially was playing #2 to my HS but its probably seen more gigs this year than any of my other basses.

It's pretty badass!

Glad nobody was hurt and you're getting paid for the replacement!

If you have the time, check all of them out: StingRay, Sterling, Bongo

Thanks for all the help and replys, I'll get some more wreck pictures up, as well as some pictures of the Stingray involved. I'll be sure to post the new sterling as soon as I hunt one down in the finish I like.

No pics, no crushed Warwick

The Sterling HH is a definite win, especially with the options you've decided on. They're built like a tank, and the customer service is top of the line.

As you can see by my sig, I'm quite fond of Sterlings. :)
