There are exactly 3 Bongos in stock in Australia at this moment. I'd prefer (real) black, but the choices are HH Rolls Burgundy, HH Graphite Pearl or a HS Sapphire Black. I've gone for the Rolls Burgundy, but have no idea what pickguard it comes with. I'm hoping it's plain white or black and not sliced bowling ball.

Will this sucker (4 string) fit in a standard moulded SKB/Gator style case that fits Stingrays, Precisions and Jazzes?

Congrats! I believe the Bongo 4s fit in almost any case. The problem lies in the extra-long headstock of the Bongo 5. Hope to see pics soon! :)

Well, I've just ordered the Bongo and will have it in a few days. But, ewwwww, the Rolls Burgundy comes with a Black Pearloid pickguard. I might have to get Bryan Boots to make me a black or a tort pickguard, or just go naked.

>>>>While I'm in question asking mode, what do Bongos look like naked? Are there any pics floating around of one without a pickguard?

I remember Bovie showing a pic of one of his with the pg removed.

That's pretty cool. Having played both SC/H and H/H Bongos, I prefer the neck humbucker with fretted, but love the way the single coil sounds with the fretless Bongo.

And, yes, Jack has had some pics without the pickguard. It looks cool, but I don't know if you'd mind having the 8 holes in the body, or not. You could always get a clear pickguard, too. With the Rolls Burgundy, I think a plain white pickguard would look pretty nice.

Congrats!

congrats ! you will enjoy your Bongo, it's real great.
Standard cases are a bit short for the headstock, but if you flatten or remove a bit of the inside lining on the bottom part it will fit in.
Why not try to get one of the new Bongo cases EB announced yesterday ?

Hey Mark,

Congrats. Just round off the end of the head stock with a belt sander. That way you don't put some guitar player's eye out, and it will fit in any case. Just kidding! I thank your black ice pick guard might look pretty good. You could take it off and put the stainless screws back in. Looks like a clear guard with out the reflection.

Enjoy,
Mike

man...that's what I wanted for mine was black pearl but I've got MOTO on it right now. Bryan says he'd make me one but I just need to pull a few extra bucks together. I think clear guards would be pointless on a Bongo.

Also, Jack did have a pic floating around of his Desert Gold Bongo w/o guard but he had photoshopped out the holes.

Paying for shipping for an empty case all the way from the US to Australia would be rather expensive. I've got 16 or 17 cases in my garage, so I bet one of them will fit ;)

Mark,

My Bongo is Rolls Burgundy and the PG screws are black. I just removed the PG and don't care for the look at all. You'll have to try it for yourself but I suspect that you'll end up keeping some sort of guard on yours too.

Thanks Jon. I've just emailed Bryan Boots to see if he can do a HH pickguard. I've seen his auctions for H and HS, but no HH yet. I'll probably order a clear pickguard and a tort pickguard for starters.

He can make one because I've already emailed him. But he doesn't have the template for the HH Bongo yet. He said he could still do it if we measure the distance between the pickups.

Im excited as hell for my Bongo to get here. Im not gonna worry about pickguards and such because I really like the combo that is coming (Lava Pearl with white ice).
If I was special ordering a Bongo, and couldnt get it in white, Lava Pearl or Desert Gold would definitely be it.
