I like BP's response and it coincides with what I've understood.

It seems a little bit like when my friend was looking at hardwood floors. He liked the look of maple but was going to get oak because he heard it lasts longer. The salesman said, yes, oak will last about 250 years, maple will only last about 200 years...

My friend got the maple and never gave it another thought.

LOL ....brother, that's exactly what I meant :D

Slightly off topic, but the Silhouettes and Silhouette Specials I've seen in person tend to not have much birdseye on the necks whereas most AL's and Axis/ASSes I've seen tend to have awesome birdseye patterns.

I was just curious if that's by design or is it a matter of what's available at the time a guitar is built? Not try ing to open up a can of worms with this question.

Typically the Artist models and the Axis series get figured necks. If you have a figured neck on a Silhouette it's probably an older model or very special!

+1 to have a very figured neck on a silhouette it 'll be older
my first ebmm was an silo HSH floyded and have a very figured neck

i was suprised when i saw for the firstime a silo special vithout flame or birdeyes
but it's an other thread ....;);););)
and today it's not very important for me
first is playability and tone and figured necks were a bonus :):):):):)

I feel the same. Having lots of birdseye on the neck is like the cherry on top of the sundae filled with delicious homeade ice cream, rich chocotale, whip cream, nuts....well, you get the point. Birdseye is beautiful and I'd gladly take it on my Silhouette Special's neck, but it's of little importance in my criteria for buying a great guitar.
