Ditto with my figured necks. In fact my Luke which I've had years now has only needed it's neck adjusted once, and it's covered in figuring.

Also, we should keep in mind that there is a big steel rod running the length of the neck. Definitely don't need to worry.

When I bought my first Axis in 04, I had two colours to choose from. A natural quilt and a trans red quilt. The natural had an amazing deep quilt but had very little birdseye. On the red Axis, it had a highly detailed birdseye neck but not as nice a top as the natural.

I wanted the natural but I bought the red Axis because of the neck.

We are talking about a solid piece of maple that is sawn and has a metal rod in it. There is no way birdseye is going to lead to stability issues in a guitar.

If this were some kind of birds eye wooden ladder, then I might question it. LOL.

Unless anyone regularly stands on their EBMM guitar neck, I wouldn't worry about it.

For the purposes of guitar (or any application where structural integrity is important), this isn't an issue.

I have to disagree a bit. A "birdseye" in a maple neck is basically an irregularity in the structure, and all this type of anomalies are bad when you are trying to optimize the structure (e.g. weight/thickness vs. strength).

Although, with guitar necks the effect is probably similar to 10"x10" steel block with small engraving on it, theoretically there's a risk but in practise it does not have any effect to it's strength....

Which brings us back to....it's not a issue.

If it's true, I'm screwed. :D

(Of course it's not true. Anybody with an ounce of common sense will realize that.)

I love birdseye necks and i want to clarify I did not ask because I was worried.
I just saw the video and I thought I would ask even though I had no reservations myself (very happy and have total faith in mm and my necks).

I just wanted there to be some kind of response to the claim in the video as some outsider could watch it and come away with a deciding factor on not to buy a MM guitar with a highly figured neck.

Parker, how u doing buddy? I am so glad I pestered you before you tried a Musicman. I remember trying to persuade you with my claims that MM guitars are the best in the world :D Glad to see that you have many EBMM guitars now and have left the emperor and the death star behind... however this place I think gets filled up with some ewoks and a keyboard at times :p
be careful though... theres a storm trooper around here somewhere :p

Walk on, brothers, it's not an issue :)

Maple is an extremely solid wood, rock hard, and guitar string tension will never be able to tear it apart....RIDICULOUS :D That's exactly the reason why EBMM have never heard of any problems with birdseye necks. People who tell stories like this, just enjoy themselves telling stories...period. That's on the same mythical level, as doctors who tell patients that drinking water causes cancer or going on vacation by car raises fertility :p

Go back to the box, Nostradamus....and get a life ;)

I like BP's response and it coincides with what I've understood.

It seems a little bit like when my friend was looking at hardwood floors. He liked the look of maple but was going to get oak because he heard it lasts longer. The salesman said, yes, oak will last about 250 years, maple will only last about 200 years...

My friend got the maple and never gave it another thought.
