He's so kinetic, plays like a wild thing and his right thumb is flailing all over the place yet it always sounds right.

I think my problem is I can't get that left hand muting right, plus the fact I'm a middle age grey haired old git so I have no sense of rhythm to start with.

He said something in the video that made me smile - he said that slapping was the best way to be able to hear your bass when you're not plugged in to an amp. That's exactly how I started when I was a student - no money, no amp, so I jammed the headstock against the wooden wardrobe in my room, opened the doors wide (for maximum volume) and just hit it until I could hear it :D

Unfortunately my technique hasn't progressed much in the intervening 30 years :rolleyes:
