:rolleyes:I purchasede a Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette used at Guitar Center in Ohio. I love the guitar but I would like to know more about it. The serial number is 91324, it is a h/s/s setup with lace sensor pickups. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the coolest place on the web.

My first guitar was a Silhouette too and I love it!

Sounds like you have an early 90's model. Someone will be along soon with a real dat so just keep checking back.

We would all love to see a picture of that ax

Just like you asked for you will find out plenty about your guitar here and we're glad to have you here.

What a steal. Looks like those used to be red pickups. I believe that Jeff Healey used to have those brand of pickups pickups in his guitar. He had a black Strat with red pickups.

$380 is seriously stealing an EBMM. You might as well have paid $3. Congratulations.

As everyone has indicated, nice snag man, great looking guitar, looks to be in pretty good shape. How do you like the EMG's in it?

As I recall, the red pickups in Jeff Healey's Black Squier were Evans pickups.

Nice sounding units.

Wow, you can't go wrong for $380. The Lace Sensors were an owner modification, and it looks like it has Graphtec saddles (or some other replacement saddles) installed as well.

Any idea what type of Lace Sensors those are? The old Fender-Laces had 4 different voices identified by the color of the stamped printing (which of course wears off with use so you have to check the model numbers on the back ).

At any rate if any color is left in the "Fender Lace Sensor" stamps, here is the "code":

Gold label - vintage 50s Strat
Silver label - "fat" Strat (like a Texas Special-type pickup)
Blue label - vintage '50s PAF humbucker
Red label - "hot" Strat (like a Duncan Quarter Pounder, etc.)

They also had "Dual" versions that basically wired two single-coil sized Laces together as a humbucker-sized pickup; that's what is in the bridge position of your Silo. I've seen Dual Red, a Red/Blue combo, and Dual Gold; the Duals can be split easily.

Maybe someone raided the pickups from a Strat Plus/Plus Deluxe/Ultra for this Silo somewhere down the line.

Pickups

The lace sensor are a Gold in the neck, a Gold in the middle position on the dual lace is a combination of a Red and Blue. When did EBMM begin calling the h/s/s pickup combination the Silhouette Special, because special is not on the headstock of the guitar. Thank you guys for all of your feedback. I own over 17 guitars ranging from Gibson's, PRS, Fender, etc... and this guitar hangs with the best of them.

The Silo Special came into play around 94'ish if I'm not mistaken.

The Silhouette Special is actually a different model guitar; as GWDavis said it came out circa 1994.

The Silhouette has 24 frets, and from its introduction in 1986 until sometime in the middle 1990s (at least 1-2 years after the Silhouette Special came out) was available with multiple pickup configurations: HH, SSS, SSH, and HSH. By the late 1990s for sure all the other combinations were dropped and all Silhouettes were HSH.

The Silhouette Special has 22 frets instead of 24, with the goal of making it a more "vintage sounding" (i.e. "Strat") guitar since the neck and middle pickups would now be in about the same place as they are on a Strat. The earliest Silhouette Specials from the first runs in 1994 actually only say "Silhouette" on the headstock, but by the end of the year they had the "Silhouette Special" decals.

Thank you for the information on my guitar. That is crazy to think that it used to be translucent red and was a h/s/h configuration. Either way it is a great playing and sounding guitar and it definetly has seen a lot of playing time. Once again thank you guys for all of your helpful information. The only other question is what year did it leave the factory?
