question : do i sell my PBB custom axis to fund the awesomely awesome Emerald Gren flame topped BFR luke i'm about to test drive later this week?

i just know i'm gonna fall in love with it and don't have the pennies to be able to keep the axis - which i also love dearly.

its a tough decision ...

do it! best color besides the Koa on a BFR luke imo and rare and discontinued, that PBB looks killer though, how so is it custom?

The color aside (and I agree and emerald flame on a BFR is just beautiful), what will one give you that the other doesn't? Is this just a aesthetic preference, or do you prefer the EMG's better?

They are both stunning guitars, but does your choice go deeper than that?

My axis is, i think, one of the last lot available to be ordered as 'custom' that meaning you could pay extra for a nicer quilt top and figured neck. It has the 'custom made' neck plate.

Re the Luke vs the Axis: i need to feel the neck of the luke again. i love the axis neck but from what i remember, i loved the luke neck more so. the shape fits my small hands better, IIRC.

I first played a Luke 1 many years ago in Manny's in NYC. loved the feel of the guitar in every way. ended up buying an SRV because my dad was overseeing the purchase and had never heard of EBMM and the Luke model but he knew SRV and liked the strat.

Asthetics wise: they are both gorgeous but i'm kinda more drawn to the BFR emerald flamed luke as i love the colour combined with the flame and the shape. I also like the idea of having something that is no longer available and quite rare.

I do need to have a good test drive and find out how the EMGs react to my kinda sound and playing.

All that said, i've got DWELLS to blame for this. the first time i saw pics of his LUKE i cried as it is simply STUNNING!

If I were in this situation...the pics of Dean's emerald BFR would put me over the edge. To me that is the finest example of a flamed emerald BFR Luke.

But i have put an 81 in the bridge mate just for that little tighter mid tone but stock its still just as amazing! i own 4 ebmms mate and in my opinion this has to be the best sounding , and playability is insane dude!!

Dean,

i noticed you've got the bridge screwed down yes? if so, have you added more springs in the back to keep it hammered down?

i do a fair amount of detuning and would be looking to lock down the bridge.

You must sell my friend - locking trems are gone now the luke trem is more awesome - and I don't use the term lightly!

TBH, i don't use my trem much anymore either. I'm not so fussed for them now. i have 2 guitars already that have them so that will suffice.

Difficult call Mr B, that is a tasty Axis you have there :D

I can certainly recommend the BFR Luke, just feels "right" to me and satisfied the EBMM search I was on.

If you are attached to your Axis you may regret letting it go, so I'd think carefully before taking that step. It was easier for me as I just couldn't quite bond with the Axis as a model, despite trying three times!

And as you say, your Axis is also special, being one of the last of the "Custom Made" ones.

Mind you, the BFR Luke has a "Custom Made" neck plate as well...

Of course the ideal option is to keep the Axis and get a BFR Luke as well, or maybe sell another guitar? Not easy to do and the BFR's are not cheap over here I know.

Good luck! :)

Starsky! Long time ...

You're right. My axis amazing and it does suit me well. Sadly I can't afford to hold onto it and have a BFR Luke. Reason I'm reckon on letting the axis go is I love the emerald green flamed luke and since they no longer are in production, I'd like to grab I if it suits. I can always get another PBB axis later but probably a hard tail with piezo.
