Hi all,
I have a EBMM Luke II guitar and it is a very good guitar but I have some question about the setup.
When I bought this guitar it was not new, the guy played it for some year and he did a weird setup. The string height was huge because it used a bottle neck. My first challenge was to setup the string height but I did not found a complete setup explanation over the net. I can't bring the guitar to a shop because the shops around my location are not very good and I don't trust them. So I must do it by myself.
I know there is a lot of thread talking about setup but they just talk about truss rod and I need to setup all the stuff (tremolo lift, saddles height, neck, string height and intonation). Well I don't know if you understand my needs because english is not my birth language and for shure I don't use the right words but I need to find a way to setup all. I know there is some explanations in the FAQ but never complete and Music Man does not provide it and I don't know why.

So I guess you guys have a complete explanation of the process to setup my neck, my tremolo and my strings in the way that all will be reset according to the factory setup.

Thanks a lot for your responses.

First of all...welcome aboard and congrats on the Luke!

It's a little hard to diagnose what exactly is wrong with your current setup without having some pics at least...is the tremolo set to float or does it sit flush with the body?
Could you probably take some pics of the bridge and post them here?

Hi

I fact I did a setup by myself trying to lower the strings as much as possible. When I try to apply the height that musicman preconize in the FAQ I have buzz. strings are too close from the fretboard. So I guess there is something wrong with the tremolo because the neck relief is, I think, pretty good I did the measurement at the fret# 8 with string "pushed" in the fret #1 and fret #17 and it's OK. If the string height at the fret #12 is 4/64 then the string buzz.
and I don't understand why because this is a factory preset ? No ?

Luke Setup FAQ

Factory specifications are guide and may be different for different players. Think of them as a place to start, not a goal to attain. Quoting from the FAQ above...

String height is determined by your preference and playing style.

I can never manage to play strings that low without buzzing because I play quite hard with a heavy pick. Sometimes I'd like to have lower action but I can't do it without buzzing and that's something I have to accept. (If I play with my fingers, even quite hard, I have far less buzz than when using a pick, so I always test playing with my pick and with the guitar in the position I play in - standing up and strapped on).

Personally, I first adjust the string heights at the bridge for no buzz on the higher frets (14th and above), trying as much as possible to follow the radius of the fingerboard. My logic here is simple - the truss rod has no effect on the highest frets so setting my action as low as possible here (for my playing style) only has to be done once. Then I adjust the truss rod to remove the buzz on the rest of the neck. A little buzz does not bother me if it doesn't come through the amp.

Don't worry about the numbers. Find something that's comfortable and works with how you play.
