I just went and traded a peavey wolfgand with archtop and a 90's generation custom for my buttercream luke II with piezo. I really like the luke but think I like the wolfgang better. Think I should sell it again and buy a wolfgang with the maple top as the other one was black, or should I sell my Generation S2 and save up for the wolfgang? Oh well did I do good in tradeing?

I would stick with the Luke for a bit, let yourself adjust to it. The neck can make it feel a bit strange to begin with from what I understand. It's something i'll have to adjust to when mine arrives

I am familiar with the neck as I am the original owner of this bad boy. I sold it when I needed some money but the person I sold it to never got used to the neck so here I am with it again.

My thoughts?

Get whatever works/felt best for/to you. While we're a bunch of EB/MM nuts, that shouldn't stop you from playing what you like best. If you liked the W01fg@ng over the Luke, get another Wolf.

That said, try an Axis first. :p

How much you want for the LUKE? I'm interested. Or maybe you'd trade it for a mint G&L Legacy Blonde plus some cash.

I really like them both the same as far as playability. The wolfgang is like a cross between a Silhouette and Luke. I like the look of the archtop wolfgang best but other than that I like the luke better. I am on even ground as far as the neck both are about the same size just one has a v and the other a u. I was just surprised Peavey could make something close to EBMM quality. Is the Axis and Wolfgang necks the same for the most part. I think the Silhouette neck is too big for its shape so if the Axis is smaller maybe I should look into one.

I havent decided to sell the luke really or yet just wanted to start a discussion. I am seriously considering selling my Generation S2 for a wolfie though. Here is a picture of the generation if anyone likes them.

That's a sweet Luke. US Wolfgangs are nice guitars though. You need to get what feels and sounds best to you. No matter what forum you're on.

you would be nuts to trade away the luke for anything other than another Ball. You just gotaa get used to it, and it will perform a million times better than a wolfgang.

No need to hate on the Wolfs!!! I have a couple & they're excellent instruments.

Having said that, I do agree w/ robelinda2 about not trading your Luke. Keep the Luke & save up to buy back the Wolf.

i work on both models at the setup shop. both models can play very very well. but 4 my money ..............( & here would be the question)......is the luke properly set up ?????

not that the us wolfies all suck (but i've seen some that did)........the quality of engineering & quality control IS better on all the ebmm's.

Personally, I wouldn't let the looks of a guitar (unless it's a D@isy R0ck :D) influence the decision. Or, if you really like the archtop, I would imagine you have considered the Axis SS

Agree on checking the Axis SS; If you ever feel the urge to sell the Luke again, don't hesitate to contact me.

Yeah the Luke isnt going anywhere unless I need money bad again. I am looking for a wolfgang and wondering wether I should sell my Generation S2. It is a great guitar but I like the neck on the wolfgang better. How does the axis compare to the wolfgang neck? The wolfgang neck is close to the same size as my luke just different style back.

The fretboard on a Wolf is flatter than the Axis (15"radius vs 10"). The Wolf neck also feels deeper to me, so overall it's just a bigger neck. The oil/wax finish on EBMM guitars is also superior, IMO. The wolf neck feels more raw & unfinished.

One more thing - To my ears, the Axis pickups are more versatile & sound much better clean, Wolf pups are a little hotter. Also, if you don't need a Floyd, the split coils on an Axis SS sound incredible.

So the axis has a small neck? Maybe I can find a floyd axis but still afraid I may not like it as much as the wolf. How do you like the wolf special?

I find the Wolf and Axis necks pretty similar to be honest. Axis might be slightly narrower but I honestly haven't noticed. Axis has a harder edge to the tone and hotter p/us IMO. The Wolf is a bit smoother, less biting. The Axis SS is somewhere in between in tone for me.

I have to say, having owned three different Wolfgangs, they are good guitars. I had a archtop wolfgang that was a great feeling and sounding guitar. The pickups seemed a little mismatched to my ear.

When I got my first Axis, I was hooked. The neck is a little smaller, but has that same asymetrical profile, worn-in feel of the wolfgang. Great combo for my smallish hands. The pickups on the Axis seem better matched than the wolfies.

I'd say give an Axis a try before you go back to the wolfgang. If it doesn't work, then you know the PV is the way to go.

I used to have 2 wolfgangs, one was a special (i sold it), and the other is a standard with stop tail peice, which currently a mate is using, and l haven't seen it in a while. But if l had to choose between my Luke and a wolfgang, it's a no boner, the Luke for sure, and l'm sure most people around these parts feel the same, this is the ernie ball forums.
