Hey Guys,

I have an awesome Luke II Koa, but I am not a fan of the EMGs. I like the long sustain, but the tone sounds sterile to me. I only play Van Halen, and some Chickenfoot and Vai. That is it. I'm a very specialized player (that mean's I can't play other stuff :D ).

So, I ordered a passive humbucker for it. I chose the Bareknuckles Rebel Yell. I know, "Gee Tahlee, why didn't you go for the VHII?" The Bareknuckles is voiced for a mahagony body guitar, or at least the killer youtube videos I saw had it in a LP. So, since my Luke is all mahagony, I went for the Steve Stevens model instead of the Eddie.

Now, I need two passive single coil sized pickups, but the emgs are smaller than normal; they don't have a lower tab like a Dimarzio.

May I please have some suggestions?

Thanks!

- Bryan

You can get many Strat pickups without the trapeze extension. I have seen SSL-1s like that. My Quarter Pounders are just oval, although I don't recommend them for this guitar. You see SSL-1s like that in Jacksons with no pickguard.

I fully agree that this is really annoying.

In case you don't know, you can't use Tele neck pickups and expect Strat sound, the classic Tele neck pickup uses thinner wire under the cover and is very different.

I think SD will be able to give you a set of SSL1s as a "floor shop" order which is the same price as regular SSL1s.

You can special order Dimarzio single coils without the flange to fit the Luke II. Not that I necessarily recommend Dimarzios, but just FYI.

Bryan:

I had chatted with Steve Blucher at DiMarzio about this. All of DiMarizio's Strat-size replacement pickups can be ordered with no flange (the flange is the V part). It's a $10 list upcharge for this option.

If you can special order the Dimarzios, I HIGHLY recommend the Area 67 and Injector pickups that Paul Gilbert uses. I happened to buy a Charvel Strat with those in it and they are awesome.
