Having seen Toto in Glasgow on Thursday, I have a massive itch to scratch now. I was looking for a PDN Luke 2 a few months back but I have to have a Blueberry Burst BFR Luke III now. It looks and sounds amazing. Of course, that might be the bloke holding it.....nah, can't be.... :p

Anyway, does anyone know if there are any limited options on the BFR? Can we have matching headstock? Stainless frets? Can we choose quilt or flame (only reason I never bought a Bahama Burst back when they were launched is you had to take what you got and I really don't like flame, has to be quilt)? Any other options at all? Many moons ago, when I bought my PBB Axis, you could pay a small uncharge to have a AAAAA top as well.

The hunt begins....

On a BFR L3 the options you get to choose are color, HH or HSS, quilt or flame. Unfortunately SS frets and matching headstock are not an option.

Thanks for that, Stratty. I'm currently torn. There's a Luke 2 BFR in Neptune Blue with a stunning flame roasted neck available in Germany just now. But I also fancy a Blueberry Luke 3. Ideally I'd have both, but that would involve selling kidneys and children!

Personally I would go with the BFR L3. I have been GASing for a HH in Hazelburst since I played it at NAMM. However, if you enjoy the EMGs then a PDN Neptune Blue BFR Luke 2 is the guitar to get. The limited nature of the PDN generally means people will hang onto them for a long time and they will rarely be available once someone bonds with it. You will always be able to pick up the BFR L3 at a later time as it should be available for a while (years) as long as there is demand for the color. Basically you can't go wrong either way.

Just heard back from the dealers and there's been a big price increase of late. 28% or thereabouts, on orders from now on so I need to find one in stock already. Been offered a bunch of BFR Neptunes to choose from. Quilt with maple, flame with maple and flame with rosewood fingerboard! I'm tempted to go for the rosewood board as the the actual flame isn't too stripey at all. Would a 100% maple neck not be very bright for a Luke? And not very Luke sounding as a result?

I would say go with the PDN Neptune Blue BFR Luke 2 then. Save a little money on an ultra cool guitar and save for the other down the road.

Except they've now price matched. Both cost exactly the same! You might be right, though. The PDN is no longer in supply so when they're gone, new, they're gone. The Luke 3 BFR can always be added to the collection later and I know I like the Luke 2 and the EMGs. Plus, with a mahogany body, maple top and maple/rosewood neck, this is as close to the old Valley Arts Lukather as we'll ever see from EBMM.

Looks like the PDN Neptune is out. I've contact the German stockist and, for some reason, they won't send me even a camera phone picture of the maple top! I find that very odd. Certainly won't be spending nearly £3,000 if I can't get one picture of it! So that just leaves a Blueberry Burst BFR as my Musician choice.

While I've got folks attention, what's the warranty on EBMM these days? Doubt I'd have any issues, but nice to know what the situation is?

Manufacturers warranties are typically one year. However EU law states all consumer goods have a two year warranty period, and it's the retailer who covers that for you. Some countries and even some stores will give you more than that. (UK and Wales the Sale of Goods Act is six years). However that only covers you for defects in workmanship or materials and after six months it's up to you to prove that it's not due to anything dumb that you did.

While I ended up with a quilt and am quite pleased, I think the flame tops I have seen are awesome. Pete DuBaldo's shop has/had a Blueberryburst flame that was great.
