Hello All - been a member here for all of 3 Minutes!

Not sure if this has been covered previously but I have just taken delivery of a Luke III Flame Maple. its Gorgeous! The neck is roasted Birds Eye. I see most of these guitars have a Flame figured neck. Is there any reason why some have a Birds Eye neck and other have flame or is it random?

Welcome to the forum! And congrats a fantastic guitar. Can we see more photos? (It's forum tradition, new guitars don't exist without photos). :)

There is no reason why your neck is what it is. With necks it's usually luck of the draw. Some are flamed, some are birdseye, some are eye popping and some less so. Non-artist model guitars can be very plain indeed. But from the photo that's there, your birdseye looks spect AAAAAAAcular!

Great find and love that finish! The Luke is my favorite git and my pick for a desert island guitar if I could only bring one. Welcome!

What about rosewood fretboards and maple neck wood. I only have my three Axis Sports to go off of but, my two all maple necks have a ton of beautiful flame but my rosewood fretboard neck has none and it's actually one of the plainest looking pieces of maple I have on a guitar. Even my Sterling rosewood Axis neck has some flame to it. Didn't know if it's just a random luck of the draw or if rosewood necks get a little less flame on the maple part of the necks. What does your collection tell us?

I'm not the Doctor, but my collection doesn't have a pattern with neck figuring. My Luke 3 with an ebony board is highly flamed, my 4 (2 maple, 2 rosewood) Axes vary from plain, to birdseye, to flame. The rest are mixed bags too. I think it comes down to what's available and ready as guitars are going through the line. I'd guess some BFR and special runs probably get preferential treatment.

Seems like that is what happens. Totally random pick on what neck figuring you get.

In addition to being a fabulous guitar, I really like the look of having a chrome humbucker and black singles.
Yes! I never noticed until you pointed it out. Definitely pops!
