Hi Eric,

Yes, I'm really lucky that I've been building my ebmm collection into something special. I'm trying to have a variety of models and woods.

Well, I currently have three amps: an early 80's Marshall JCM 800 full stack that I've owned for a very long time. My newest head is a Roccaforte Custom 80 watt head, which is an American made Marshall clone with more gain and a master volume knob. They only made three of them with flamed maple cabinets: my red one, a blue, and a green one. Incidentally, I had the green one on layaway at G.C. when I found the red. It was $100 more, but I liked red more so I went for the red one. But, my favorite amp of all time is my Gibson Super Goldtone, made by Trace Elliot in England around 2000. It is all tube and it's a half stack.

I used to have a nice green Trace Elliot, a 5150, 5150 II, and a Soldano but I had to sell them when I bought this house (I needed a large deposit and I didn't have enough $$$). The Trace Elliot was just as good as the Gibson. I only like tube amps.

The next head I'm considering is the Carvin Legacy III. It's made in USA and it's a pretty amazing three channel amp.

Well if your looking at the Carvin, i played a HK amp at GC , and i never played a Hughes Kettner amp before and I cant remember the model but it was a 100 watt head 3 channels, and 3 modes for each channel, and it did everything from old marshall sounds all the way up to 5150 territory, and actually sounded better than the 6505 right next to it! I really liked that amp, but it was $2200 and thats very high for me right now, im looking at used 5150s the peavey ones, i like the evh ones but im nostalgic and want the original head and cab, i love those things! I just need a place to crank it, im in an apt not a house so I have to be mindful, but i have to have one, and when i do move into my first house ill already have it!

Oh Bryan, does your 800 have a master? Or is it one of the early ones? Ive heard that some 800s get there gain from diode clipping ( like the 900) is yours? Cause a lot of people dont like the 900 for that reason but i think there great too! And i have a little 30 watt jtm combo 1 12 marshall from the uk and it uses the diode clipping and sounds great, but anyhow do you have a pic of the 800 stack! Are the cabs basket weave or the cool grey color or are they the black? I gotta see!

After a year or so, I finally gave in to the desire to 'rat rod' it...

IF you get one, they tend to sound a bit dark...don't hesitate to crank the treble & presence knobs...

It looks really cool rat rodded out like that. How do you like the head?

It does what it does extremely well... (sorry, I'm not good at describing amp tones at all...and there are so many variables...speakers, cabs, which guitar is used, etc...).
All Legacy amps want to play LOUD...although the MV works great on the 3, it's still much happier turned up.
Watch some videos on the the 3 and the first Legacy to get a feel for what they can do. The L2 was built a bit different from what I've heard.
I don't even try to suggest or promote any amp anymore, as there are so many that work so well... and everyone seems to have a different favorite.

Thanks. I know what you mean, but LOUD helps. I want it to sound saturated but at bedroom volumes. I play late at night.

Same here...that's why my L3 doesn't get switch on very often. My go-to amp after these years is still my HT40...at low levels...

The neck fit like a glove and I am very, very happy with the results. I usually roll back the treble from the the max position to almost half way. All I had to do with the rosewood neck was add a little more treble, and I was back to my normal tone. I love the rosewood neck - it feels so, so good.

Looks amazing! There's a Thin Mint vibe to it now haha.

haha - yes, it does. I'm going to pimp it out with pearl tuner buttons and a leopard guitar strap.

I am very happy with this Luke III. The character of the guitar has changed with the new neck. It feels like the neck and the body resonate together in a magical way. They feel like they vibrate as one. I once heard a story of a guitar maker who would match necks with bodies based on the way they vibrated. I think he would knock on the woods or something like that before choosing which neck would go with which guitar.
