Hi All-
Newbie here. Had my first gig with my new (to me) Silo Special last nite. Does anyone here know if the pickup output on the Silo is equal or less than the the Transition pickups on the Luke III? Comparitively, it didn't seem like the Silo had as much. Tone was good, but ..?

If so, can this be equalled or evened out by pickup height adjustment, or should I consider replacement pickups to match the LIII's?
Thanks!

Just my 2 cts but LIII has a boost so when this one is engaged you probably have more output than any regular guitar

Surely someone knows all about the pickup situation? I am aware of the boost on the LIII..I am talking about sound for sound output levels..can I match these or should I order a Transition set for the Silo? Also..is it possible to re-wire the hum in the LIII to tap the 4th position for more 'quack'??
thanks all!

Hi,

The bridge pup of the silo spec is a virtual PAF and rather low in output. You might get it louder and beefier when bringing it nearer to the strings, but you might loose balance with the single coils.
Although I don't know the transitions, they will be louder, beefier and most likely darker.

I recently installed a PAF 36th bridge humbucker at the bridge of my silo spec. I really like it so much! It's got that beefy mid crunch for higain, but retains a broad, open feel for crunch and clean sounds. I installed noiseless stacked single coils from Dimarzio in neck and middle, to stay noiseless without a battery and even out the volume differences.

You can also wire the humbucker for more quack in 4th position, but you might need a new switch (not sure).

Dr. Kev,
Since it is the bridge version, it has some 50 mV or so more in output. That doesn't make a big difference, but I feel the plus in output is concentrated in the "just right" mids. It has now that slight "aw" colour I was missing. But I can't directly a/b them in the same guitar. It was just, that after the change, the something was there, what I was missing before.

Headrash, is the 36th that different from the V PAF? I thought they'd be similar (or at least variations on a theme).

I recently changed the bridge on my SS to a Air Zone. I also changed the pot from 250k to 500k. It sure seems louder now, certainly more gain than before. (More feeback too though).
