I've had a CBP Luke for almost a year and only really started playing it the last couple of weeks. I noticed mine has some birdseye in the neck. I didn't think Lukes had birdseye. Is that true?

The one I played this weekend didnt. Another thing I noticed was the neck felt like bare wood and less oil finish.

if the neck you played didnt feel like it was oiled it has probably sat in the store and needs a touch up

That's interesting. I assumed mine was un-oiled as well. Next to my Petrucci, it's much whiter in color and the Petrucci is yellower.

my luke neck is CRAZY INSANE birdseye, and oiled to the max! Not white at all, unlike like my Silo 20th or Y2D, they are white as, they feel much less oiled, which is fantastic! my Black ASS and Luke are older guitars too so they are more played in and feel/look oily as a result too.

My Luke 1 has a crazy Bird's Eye neck, it's just the luck of the draw, and it's becoming pretty hard to get now.

Scott.

Sure is. I was talking to a small builder, and he needs bigger blanks to accomidate his tilt back headstock. It has become a serious upcharge for him, and almost impossible to find.

The Veneer guys can make so much off it with furniture, it's become very difficult. Much like Koa in that regard.

i got my luke today. i havent even checked to see if there's any birdseye... i should go do that

personally im indifferent to birdseye tho i can see how people dig it. but like everyone said, its luck of the drawn. if you wanna ensure you like the amount of birdseye on an MM guitar/bass you really gotta see one (or pics of it) before you buy it.
