Probably an age old question , but I can't find anything in a search. Which in your opinion is the most versatile ...Petrucci or Luke ? (Guitars not persons :p)

Thanks

I'd say Luke just because of the HSS configuration. Not really a sound you can't get "close" to.

Luke.......:D every time.... the JP is a great guitar but much more geared in one direction IMO.....

The Petrucci has 24 frets. that's worth about 48% of the score in my book. but it's not solely based around that. with two humbuckers and a split-coil option, tonal possibilities seem endless to me. i made my ibanez (a H-S-H configuration) with the single position using the inside coils of the humbuckers instead of the single coil, and it totally replace the single coil altogether. and btw, my humbuckers are the ones Petrucci uses.

but yeah, that's just my opinion.

They're totally different axes with totally different necks.

I'd say play both and pick the one that suits you best.

Tonewise, I'd have to agree with most of the posts. I have both, and I vote for the Luke....

Tough. Neither is versatile enough to get you into true strat/tele territory, so I'de call it a wash.
And because I asked this question to myself alot.....

I decided it was better to own a PET and an ALBERT.

I own both and the Luke has more versatility due to HSS.

Bare in mind Steve Lukather is a session musician who has played on a huge variety of albums in many different styles so he needs as much flexibility and versatility as possible.

The Pet, while very nice, is primarily a hard rock guitar although you can get other tones out of it and is very versatile with a piezo.

I know you are in the UK, I have one of each model on ebay.co.uk right now - I'm downsizing due to a forthcoming baby who needs a nursery room (thats currently full of guitars!)
