I mostly stay on the neck. I use the bridge for high gain rhythm sounds and at times I'll use the middle position for some clean stuff. I'll have to try out that neck+middle position to see what sounds I get.
for clean sounds, I prefer the neck and the neck+middle positions, for crunch sounds middle and neck+middle, and for the rest (solos and powerchords) bridge and neck
I have owned the 85 model bridge pickup in a few other guitars. It's my favorote EMG pickup by far. The only other would be an 89 because it's kind of like 2-in-1...
Mostly neck and neck and middle positions, then the bridge for gainy solos... the volume boost from the singles to the humbucker makes this super useful at gigs where you dont want to tap dance on effects to make the solo stand out.
In the early days I used bridge for P.M. and screaming leads and neck/middle combo for clean sounds.But I replaced the 85 with 89 so I can use all what selector will bring me
