Toto are touring downunder at present, and tonight Luke was guest panellist on a 30 minute music trivia/quiz show on TV here. At one point he got to ride a bicycle attached to a turntable, with other panellists required to guess the song on the record, with Luke needing to vary his pedalling speed to play the vinyl at a recognisable speed. He seemed to enjoy himself, and appeared to get most of the Aussie humour. The show is called Spicks and Specks, and runs at 8.30pm on the Government-owned channel, ABC.

Yes, a good episode of that show, and he got into the spirit very well. They briefly canvassed his extensive discography. Until now I hadn't realized how many classic tunes he'd played on, outside of Toto that is... squillions it seems.

The missus joined the show late, so she asked me "who's the guy in the middle". I was tempted to say something clever like "he's the guy in Jack Williams' avatar" or "one of the EBMM Knuckleheads", but I took the easy option.

The discussion about the huge number and diversity of artists that Steve has recorded with was extremely interesting.

Hopefully someone more geekified than me had the right technology at home to record the show and will post it somewhere.

I just found this gem, courtesy of Google .....

"Thursday night’s taping of Spicks and Specks was a great night. There were some good guests and lots of laughs, a chance for autographs and photos and a long night.

It was very similar to a lot of other tapings I’ve been too. Get there early and wait for ages until you eventually get into the studio. Then there’s the warm up guy to sit through and then the show begins.

The first show went for about an hour and a half, mostly because of the presence of Steve Lukather from the band Toto. Steve was pushing the boundaries and it will be interesting to see what actually gets to the air, most of it far too filthy for the time slot."

One of my favourite parts was when, having answered a trick question correctly, Luke provides a "trick answer"...the host told Luke the answer was wrong, but it became apparent pretty quickly that he hadn't done his research well enough!!! Luke's answer was correct!
