Hey Kevan.... I made some changes to your transcriptions Below........ You were Very Close on a bunch of the Stuff!!!!!!! Very Cool!!

Made a quick Change here, it's a 1/4 step bend and release the 8th fret pulled off to the 6th fret.

Sax lick after the lyric, "..dress like monkeys":..
Code:
E------------------------------
B---------8^vp6-~~~------
G------------------------------
D------------------------------
A------------------------------
E------------------------------
Sax lick after the lyric, "..to the eskimos":

You have the right notes but its played over this C major Triad.

Code:
E--------------------------12-11-10-----
B--------------------------13----------------
G--------------------------12---------------
D--------------------------------------------
A--------------------------------------------
E-------------------------------------------
After the little 'jazz club' intro is the actual begining of the song. I'm sure it's off in some parts, but that's why I'm here! :) Critique away!

I Re-Transcribed The Whole Main Song Intro Part Here right up til the Vocal starts....:
Code:
E----------------------------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------------------------
G----------------------------------------------------------------
D------------------------4-2-------------------------2----2----
A--5-------------------4------4-4----------------4----4----4-
E-----2--5--2--2----5-------------0--4----0-0---------------

E------------------------------------------------------------------------
B------------------------------------------------------------------------
G------------------------------------------------------------------2
D------------------------4--2---------------------------2---2------2
A---5-----------------4----------4-4-----------------4----4----4---0
E------2--5--2-2-5--------------------0-4----0-0---------------

I Recorded this Main Song Intro Section Here:

Has anyone mentioned how much bootay you kick, Dan? Well, let me be the first to say so! :D

Thanks so much!
After seeing your changes, I see a bunch of my mistakes. I missed the shift up for the second part of the song's main intro.

Dan- how about if I return the favor a little? A couple of corrections for your lyrics:
"...it's cold and it's DAMP."
"...for you and me YA bad girl."
I've done so much A-B repeat on the CD it's not even funny. :)

Okay, time to practice! WooHoo!

A couple of tech notes:
- EB Slinky's sound really nice on EB/MM JPM's. (Normally I'm a DR guy)
- With the nice new toasty weather, a truss rod adjustment was in order. About 1/10th of a turn and I was done. Excellent design, guys!
- The setting on my Vetta 2 that I've found works best for the main portion of the song is called "80's Metal". :)

Well, I've been working on it when time allows, and earlier this morning I hooked up the 'Shred Cam' (I built it but didn't name it) and shot a quick video for everyone.

PREFACE:
- You'll need the latest version of Quicktime to view it.
- If you're expecting note-for-note, don't.
- If you're expecting a pro mix, don't. As I move around, the mix changes.
- My fantastic CD player skipped as I was recording. Watch my fingers freak out as I try to find out wherethefrick I'm supposed to be. LOL
- In the background you'll see my old TV that recently died (after 22 years!) resting on the box for the new TV. Trash day is Monday. :)
- The gear used:
  • EB/MM JPM-6 Red Pearlburst w/Tremol-No (unlocked)
  • Ernie Ball Slinky strings (9's)
  • Shure Wireless
  • Line6 Vetta 2 halfstack
  • Factory preset: "80's Metal"
  • Dunlop Tortex pics (the blue ones)
With all that, here ya go:

Big thanks to Dan for all his help with this. I really appreciate it.
And an "I Owe You A Couple Of Beers" to Mr. Lukather for the guitar parts themselves.

Critiques welcome!

Kevan, man.. That was Great!!!!!! I love the Shred Cam!!! :D
I have always found that a CD skipping can be a good thing, it's good training
for playing live because you Never know what can happen...:D Ha Ha....
Seriously man, that Kicked Ass.... I am glad I could help...... That low intro riff is actually harder to play that one would think and You totally Nailed it!!! The Solo was pretty much Spot On as well. OH! and thats a Great Looking JP 6 you have!!:)
If you ever need help with another tune don't hesitate to ask....

Dan- you said you liked the ShredCam footage, so here's a little bit more for ya.
THIS IS NOT ME PLAYING!
It is someone who possesses *much* more skill than I. His name is Trey Alexander. Cool guy, amazing player, and he loved the ShredCam so.....we let it roll. :)

(about 25MB, WMV format)

Here's what the ShredCam looks like mounted in a couple of different positions on the guitar:

The gimble can be set horizontally or vertically, and then the clamp can be attached pretty much anywhere on the guitar.

I'm building 2 more this week for Dave Weiner (Steve Vai's #2 guitarist) and Rob Balducci (Favored Nations recording artist). They're co-headlining a quick mid-country tour in July, and thought it'd make for some great live DVD footage, lessons, or website stuff.

I just thought you'd all like to see how I originally did the video.

Time to resurrect this thread for some updates!

I've been working on the song, and have it pretty much nailed down- with much thanks to Dan, as you have read.
I also have a new CD player that doesn't skip. LOL

I wanted to challenge myself a little, so I used this song (and Red Ryder's "Lunatic Fringe") to teach myself to play and sing at the same time.

I don't know how Tom Petty, Bryan Adams, Tim Pierce and those other guys do it. It's one of the hardest things I've ever learned how to do. The coordination and timing necessary is up there with hockey goalies and Jean-Claude Van Damme. I need The Matrix so I can have some dark haired hottie plug a bigass needle into the back of my neck and play like Luke. :)

I finally got the Shred Cam back after it went on quite the extended tour, so I'll re-shoot some video and try to edit together a nice piece for everyone.
I'll even put on a nice shirt. :D :D :D

Thanks again, Dan. I appreciate the help.
