Luke users: Passive PU's similar to SLV's?

First of all, hi! I'm John, and I just signed up here.

I'm wondering if you Luke users (or anyone else) know of a passive pickup that has a similar tone to the EMG SLV's. The reason I'm asking is because I really dig EMG's singlecoil sounds (especially Luke's) but I can't get along with any of their humbuckers. And I'm a HSS kinda guy.

Added to that, I prefer 7-strings over 6's these days... which makes my choices smaller, but custom wound pickups aren't out of the question. So getting some more pointers on pickups that are in the ballpark of the SLV would be great. The SLV is obviously very muscular but maintains a singlecoil character even with a lot of gain, in a way that seems pretty rare to me.

Did you also try the 89? It's splittable, so may give give you a more single coil sound. I haven't tried it, but it may be an option?

Thanks for chiming in! Yeah I haven't tried the 89 but it's an option. There's talk about a 7-string EMG single that will be on the new Devin Townsend sig from Peavey, but it's not known whether or not it'll be available separately, nor which of the existing pickups it'll be based on.

A 7-string Luke is without a doubt my ideal guitar, unfortunately that probably won't happen

i would suggest the dimarzio cruiser S for the mid and neck

also i would suggest trying a eymour duncan blackout humbucker. for me, they demolish emg humbuckers, might do so for you too good luck

don't think an blackout would go well with the single coils' low output.

buut then again, i love the emg buckers...

If you're looking for something hotter/ more metal try an EMG 81. Loved them since 1986 and put one in my Dargie 2 Luke II. Sounds great!

I've had the same thoughts for years
Have had in the back of my mind to have a guitar built with SLVs and a passive 'bucker, but what a mess that would be. I'm not even sure it is possible.

Unfortunately I've never found passives that are close to the SLVs.

Carvin makes some 7 string singles, I cant speak for their sound though.
