So I bit the bullet and put 10's on my two Luke's and now all my guitars have 10's on them as 12 of 14 of my guitars have piezo's. I found I do like the tone from piezo's better with 10's and since alot of my playing style and my situation with a piezo equipped guitar deals with strumming, the 10's just handle the strumming part a little better IMHO and still affords easy bending and lead playing.
I do miss the 'slinky' action for lead playing on my Luke's but the stinkin' thing makes 10's feel like most other guitars feel with 9's...!
Here's the kicker... I set the action on all my guitars and do fairly extensive repair work myself so I DO know how to set intonation and a variety of other guitar related issues (been seriously playing since 1981 and professionally since 1998 or so)(wow, I think I just 'dated' myself a tad
)
Oh yeah, the kicker! The Luke's (BOTH of them! not just one but BOTH) needed ZERO intonation adjustment AT ALL! You might say "were you using a strobe?" No, as I don't own a Peterson but I do have some fairly accurate tuners and for my intonation and tuning needs they 'work'. (I do have 'digital' strobes though...)
Again, the Luke's BOTH needed NO, ZERO, NADA, intonation changes and I CANNOT explain this as I have changed back and forth from 9's to 10's on other guitars and they ALWAYS needed intonation adjustments.
Can someone explain this...? Or is it like the Nike ad says 'it's gotta be the guitars...!'
