Hmmm....Lunch today is more like breakfast.

4 egg whites on a roll with bacon and cheese....lg coffee light and sweet and some oj. Yeah I'm off from work and woke up late.

I'll start off buy saying (there's a joke here people....) that I've been buying a massive load of stuff (Koog can attest here). But I did it by selling off most of my gear. I posted a list that looks like a thread on another forum, it's pretty wild. Looks like guitar wise I'm firmly rooted in EBMM Land and loving it.

Basically it became time to reinvent my style and tone (new amps will do this too). You guys ever pull something like this before (it's like the 5 time in about 17 years of playing for me)?

Music:
Toss up between: John Scofield - En Route, Slipknot Vol. 3, and Incubus - A crow Left of the Murder

Funny you should ask, I'm right in the middle of a complete redo of my rig too. I went from Carvin neckthroughs through a few pedals into a Dual Recto. Now (as soon as all the pieces arrive) I'll be running a seven string pet into a rack built around a Mesa Mk IV and effects by TC Electronic. I also ordered an Ibanez AJ307 for acoustic. What can I say, even after the "cool" has worn off seven stringers for most people, I still prefer 'em.

As for lunch it's only 9am here so I don't know what lunch will offer.

I'm listening to DMX right now so I've heard Pink Floyd and Nickelback so far this morning.:D

The Mark IV is the only thing I have ordered right now. I still have to rackmount it (it's still a head). Later on I'd like to add a Recto preamp.

I haven't decided yet on the effects. I've had the G Major before and it was ok. Nothing spectacular just ok. I want to try out the G Force but I've also thought about going more component style. Maybe getting a Lexicon unit for reverb, TC for delay, and maybe even racking up a pedal for chorus / modulation. I haven't completely decided on all the particulars.

I want great sound but I also need to keep the rack size and weight down.

I'd like to load it with the usual suspects; I can't decide on wah yet. I like the idea of having a rack wah, to keep the signal in the rack but I already have a 535q that I really like. I'm using Samson Airlines for my wireless for both the Mag and Piezo.

Let me tell you how nice those little guys are. My band(s) all run In Ear Monitors so before I switched to the Airlines I had three body packs on my body at every job! Cables were running everywhere. Now just one, I likey!

Lunch today will be restaurant Mexican food to welcome back a coworker from maternity leave. My latest kick is finding existing backing tracks on the web or wherever and learning the songs. That is what I have been doing with my own material but I would create the backing tracks myself. Guitar Techniques magazine gave me “Take it off the top” from The Dixie Dregs so I learned it. Last week I found some great midi Satch backing tracks. (I’ll post a link if anyone asks) So last night I got all the way through Surfing with the Alien.

I’m so proud of myself.

My performances are me playing with backing tracks so this is fuel for my shtick. Next I think I will do Simple Simon from Steve Morse. I can already play the song I just need to do it with the track. I want to go play guitar!

Lunch: Pizza, it was a pepperoni and I had some Garlic bread too.

I'm trying to pull off a tonal change with the addition of a Laney VH100R (the 5150 will remain in the garage for use at a later date). Its more a development of what tones I can get beneath me rather than a concious decision to change how I sound.

As far as reinvention goes, I used to play in a Van Halen tribute and I consciously banned myself from tapping and whammy bar stuff for a while, just to get it out of my system and to develop my own style again.

OrangeChannel: It's interesting that you want to reinvent yourself and have done so previously. What made you come to this decision? What actions are you taking to do so?

Mostly I get sorta bored with what I have to work with. But then again it may be because I'm not totally in love with my setup either.....
With the guitars at this point, EBMM's are the easiest to play, best sounding, best customer support I've come across. No BS. Just great products.

Amp-wise, hmm....everyone has Mesa stuff these days, and to run the risk of sullying my heroes, I can't figure out why because there's way better stuff out there (koch, engl, bad cat, naylor, bogner, diezel). (Hey JP....listen to us!)

Efffects (well those didn't change....)....hmmm. Pedals seem more organic than all that rack pap. Looks like VH is returning to a pedal based setup on this tour from what I've heard. I just purchased an Axess Electronics Buffer/Splitter only to find out from Mario that EVH bought the same piece the week before.

Also, gigging doesn't require huge setups especially around here in the NYC area. I mean most of the time you read threads on tech boards about dudes' resepective rigs and it comes across like a pissing contest (Ihave 43,000 more blinking lights on an iso-transformer more than you do. Ha!....to them I say: Well, I can reach further if I just pinch the slightest bit at the....hehehe).

I like to set up 2x12's (either combos or cabs) at like waist height (on top of a road case usually works best). You see it comes down to the principle of Decoupling:getting your cab off the floor, or near floor level improves bass response and overall tone. Not how many speakers cabs you have or what not.

Wow! I really am a Guitar Geek.

Lunch today....had to work through it. Oh well, nature of the beast. It happens....Dinner will be Red Lobster with the wife and kid.

I have never gone through the spell OC is talking about. I have a very basic set up. Marshall DSL with a slant cab and a Boss GT-6 processor. I am very bare bones, but this set up works very well for me. I am not technically gifted like OC and other on racks and pedal boards. I just found something that works and stuck with it.

My only problem is.....I buy guitars like crazy. I have 5 now, a 6th one on order and everyone knows I am looking for a Blue Dawn Pet that I will buy instantly (provided the price is right....I will not get screwed.). I love each axe for what they do and that is bring enjoyment to me as a player. :D

Today I listened to one of my favorite bands CD...they are not well known here in the states....

Bathory - Nordland I.

Great band from Norway I believe.

Yeah. I met the singer/guitar player when I was over there back in the 80's. He was handing out flyers to promote themselves. Their early stuff is typical heavy guitars, drums, darth vader with cancer vocals. Then they released an album called Hammerheart, great clean vocals and heavy (Sabbath type). Great album. I have all of their stuff, even the early stuff. Killer band. Not the best musicians, but good. They did it on their terms. Still going too.

Hey Orange, how strange is the world.
I also spoke sometimes with Mario Marino..!
It's a good guy, very gentle and his tools are great.
The only thing...He doesn't speak a world of Italian...I hope to see him when he would come to Italy...he says he doesn't have so much time to come...:)

Lunch report?
pasta salad and water....

I' m in a period of transition in music...I'm changing my effects rig...
I will buy a gmajor, I have behringer comp, a rfx switcher for overdrive pedals before the amps and i'm projecting a rack valve mixer with a friens for the digital gmajor....

i hope it will works

Bye
