Hello All,
I have been lurking around here long enough (about 18 months) and thought it was about time I chimed in and said hello.
I live in Sydney, Australia and am the proud and fortunate owner of a Stingray I purchased from the USA around 18 months ago. When I saw it I had to have it - I don't need to explain that process to you guys. Black, unlined fretless, more birdseye than a flock of seagulls. MMMMM Birdseye.
I tend to cycle through various instruments looking for the ONE and this is a rare 'keeper" in my books. 20 years of playing and I finally found it.
Ironically my bass teacher when I was 18 had a Stingray. At the time I was into metal and didn't even give his bass a second glance. If only i knew then what I know now.
I have attached some pics ( I hope they load up) as I know, NO PICS - NO BASS.
Thanks.

Welcome!

That's one bada$$ blank plank you've got there. Bet it sounds GREAT.

"Damn straight it does" sez my HHp Bongo, sitting next to me on the couch and looking over my shoulder. It's been talking to me a lot lately.

Don't be afraid to chime in... we're all knuckleheads here.....

Wow, I am truly honoured to be greeted by the head honcho himself, BP. I will definately be hanging around now I have finally posted.
To tell you the truth the reason I haven't posted earlier is that I thought my pictures would be awful. My crappy digital camera does surprise me occassionally as they turned out a lot better then I anticipated, particularly the headstock. Man I love birdseye necks.
I have requested it's manufacture date on the appropriate thread. From other serial numbers I am figuring early '95, so definately 15+ years old.
It is in great condition. Some very minor minor string rub, and a little oxidisation on the tuners and pitting on the bridge. I haven't pulled it apart to attend to these minor issues cause I love playing it too much. I think (know) I need another to take the focus away from it.
:D

Very nice! Right this week I came in possession of a '88 StingRay with exactly the same configuration. Black/black blank plank. And a load of figured maple on the back of the neck! They're just classic!

Hot Dang that's pretty! Thanks for the extra pictures, I'd have to keep that bass in the case when I was naked, I wouldn't want that many eyes lookin' at me.

... there will be those that would argue that last point. :D

Lovely bass man, quite similar to my natural fretless (man that thing has some birdseye!) but you just can't beat a black ray. Especially blank like that, so classy, so COOL.

Welcome aboard, sir.

And try a Bongo if you get the chance!

Chuck, you're obviously a very shy person.
