I bought my Sterling HS over three years ago. I bought a new StingRay this week. Early last year I decided to upgrade from my GK Backline 210. I never realized how important a component of sound the amp was until I started shopping. I tried the MarkBass MiniMark and was very impressed by it. But wanting a little more sound I returned it for a MarkBass CMD102P. It was really good too. But something in me longed for a little bit different tone. So I ordered a Mesa Boogie 12" Walkabout Scout. I've had it for close to a year now.
I'm no pro nor do I claim to be an expert on combo amps but my Sterling/StingRay and Mesa Boogie really seem to complement each other. I have found the sound I wanted. To me, the Mesa seems to put out a warmer, fuller tone than the MarkBass. But tone is in the ear of the beholder. The only downside to the Mesa for me is the weight.
I know that MarkBass is very popular among bassists as it well should be. I just wanted to share my experiences in the event someone was shopping for a new combo.
