I'm confused . Are we talking about speaker cables, power cables or guitar cables?

I use Mogami Gold for intrument cable, and there I notice a huge difference in transparency. But speaker cables?

Bungo, I hear ya on those cheapo patch cables.

Errr...well I think everyone was talking about speaker cables then power cables and then I broadened it to include instrument cables as well.

I am a dreadful thread hijacker! (But it seemed appropriate as well):D

Alright Frank, enough whining about the damn cables... :D kidding bud! Let's hear about the amp!!! How's that thing sound?!?!?!

I'm picturing a cross between the RoadKing and the LoneStar but that's just a wild ass guess on my part.

And I'm thinking that with the amount of change you drop on a Mesa it should include a decent cable. I'd be pissed too...

Candid I'm in agreement with you, I've been using EB cables and can't justify spending $100 for a "monster" cable.

Well, Fred, as soon as I get a speaker cable I'll let you know..................:D

Actually, I had the combo but the sucker was 94lbs:eek: So I returned the combo and ordered the head. I love the channel 4 recto sound it's awesome. When I get my, CABLE, I'll play with the other channels. Mesa tolds me that the RKII and Roadster have a circuit board that models the LS but not the exact one. It's a trimmed down version of the RK. Just 6L6's, no EL34's, I bleeb, one effects loop vs two, no progressive linkage whatever that is, can't remember what other differences there are. But I'm happier than a pig in ****. My first tube amp. BIG improvement over the solid state POS I had.

Save yourself a great deal of money by not buying the overpriced hype of Monster cables. Do you guys have any idea what the markup on those are? When my friend worked at GC, he bought me one of their cables--sticker price $60. My price? $16.

I've been buying cables from Butch at Bayou Cables and they are as good as anything Monster puts out.

Plus, you can get them in different colors, custom lengths, etc. Really helps keep people from walking off with you cables when yours is orange, and everyone else's is black.....

Frank,
It sounds cool, congrats. It sounds like you'll be busy playing around with the different channel setting looking for "that" tone...

I was considering a RKII but it looks like serious overkill, at least for me. I might have to check the Roadster out.

take care!

Planet Waves makes great cables too. I like the Circuit Breaker instrument cables. They also use a spring loaded end that doesn't pop out easily. JP's whole rig is wired by Planet Waves. I look forward to trying out the Roadster. Is the clean as good as the Lonestar? From what I understand, it's the same pre-amp.

I'm always interested in this area being a bit of a hi-fi buff as well where such things are discussed long and hard into the night!

One small point, if you go to the trouble and expense of buying a very high quality instrument cable, make sure all of the interconnects between your pedals etc are of the same quality, otherwise you might as well not bother.

I'm always amazed when I see people with fancy cables between their instrument and theis pedal board, and then they have those ultra cheap plastic molded connectors between pedals.

D'oh!:D

Would the George L's be high enough quality for a pedal board? Right now I'm using the HOSA... I KNOW CHEAP BUT Monster Does not make a patch cable at this point.

I know mark up is high... lets just say that I'm one who buys just around cost on EVERYTHING.... EXCEPT MONSTER... they will not allow discounts anymore... at least nothing below their sale price... which is determined by Monster.

But l've never had a speaker cable included when l buy an amp

Yeah, I agree. Why would you have expected it to come with a cable? Maybe that's just me knowing that nothing comes for free anymore. A guitar rarely comes with a strap. You have to buy that when you buy the guitar. Same with cables.

Speaking of cables, I use George L's on my pedalboard. They sound great and you can customize all the lengths yourself.

Our local all knowing (have a look at his client list on his site!) guitar guru (Charlie Chandler) recommends George L's.

http://www.guitarexperience.co.uk/html/index.php

They supply a kit that enables you to make up cables of the correct length for your pedal board connections.

Hope that's useful!:D

yep another nod for Bayou Cables. I use BC for everything concerning guitar. Can't do the Monster hype after they tried to claim a trademark on the word Monster. Give me a Monster break! Not to mention ridiculously inflated prices for a slightly better cable.

I personally prefer the instrument/speaker cables from Voodoo Amps over monster cables. They sound nice and clean, very balanced, no loss in tone, and they're much cheaper to buy :D

If you look at the Quote Page for Voodoo Amps and you see Randy Walker from CA... he's the guy that custom makes all my pick-ups and they sound really tight...
