Hello. Was wondering about the max gauge for the Majesty 7 guitar on the thickest string.

A 0.054 gauge fits rather well, but I tried the NYXL seven string set and the 0.064 gauge does not fit at all, which is kind of disappointing as those are my go to strings.

Anyone have any knowledge? Thank you in advance.

If I am understanding your question correctly you're asking what the heaviest gauge string set for the current nut slot sizes? That I don't know. What I can say is that with a bit of simple widening of the nut slots to accommodate your preferred string gauge would solve your issue. A very common and easy thing to do.

Thank you for the response. This is my first dive into seven strings, so widening the nut was not a process I looked at doing.

After viewing a few videos, my concern is widening the nut and then having issues with lower gauge strings. For instance if I widen it to accept a 0.070 gauge, how bad would the buzz effect be when going back to a 0.054 gauge?

I think it's usually a commitment to widen the slots to accommodate ta heavier gauge. And, of course, that is just one piece of the bigger set up picture. Truss rod tightening to correct relief and trem claw/spring tension adjustments for the additional string set tension would also need to be evaluated and addressed. All normal and basic set up stuff but that is a pretty large step up in gauge. And widening the slots, especially .010 on the lowest string, is more that what is the usual recommended latitude of .003-.004 where you can more easily get away with smaller changes in string set gauges, say in the .009 to .010 to .011 range for standard six string sets. So returning to the .054 sets might be a challenge if you alter the nut sluts that much. I do think that ultimately you should set up for what you prefer. Replacing the nut is not that big a deal and probably readily available from EBMM parts so don't let that dissuade you from making the guitar work for you.

I personally use the EB 2241 hybrid sets on everything and the .046 E string is slightly larger than the OEM .042 E string, so I tweak that a bit and all is well. And I would likely have no problem returning to a .042 if need be because it's not widened by all that much. But .010, or more if your going to a .070, is a commitment.

Awesome. Thank you for breaking it down like that.

I will go with the 9-54 string sets. They seem to be able to drop tune to A just fine, and I don’t need to have much else. Permanent alterations are not my forte at this point in the guitar journey.

Will have to check out that hybrid set you mentioned. Thank you for the reply.

Well, the guitar comes with .010 to .056, so I would think those are what the nut is set up for. Might be able to take the EBMM .011 to .058 gauge. With 7 string sets D'Addario seems to use heavier lower strings than EBMM does, which is probably why you're having issues.
