Found these in a local music store yesterday. Didn't even know these existed!

These are the first picks I've liked since I got hooked on V-picks medium pointed over a year ago...

Those picks have been out for around a year now. Personally I don't like them, much prefer Jazz IIIs.

Yesterday I got both (the pic is the petrucci model of which I've asked about recently). The jazz III black ultex is very good, the petrucci though is definitely easier to pick with, less resistance. Today I've used both and I think I'll use the jazz simply because they're available anywhere. Also, some have mentioned that they prefer larger picks and I used to be the same as I've tried both the jazz I and the II years ago..but for some reason, the smaller size doesn't bother me anymore.

I have tried these small picks many times over, and I have never got on with them. I just need big picks! Plus big picks are more fun to throw to the crowd!

There was another recent thread about these picks and, as a result, I ordered a pack of 6 yesterday. They should be here by the end of this week.

I am a fan of the Ultex material. My default is the regular sized Dunlop Ultex 1.14mm. I also like the Ultex Jazz IIIs for some things. Looking forward to trying out the JP version!

I've been using these exclusively for at least a year now, and before that my favorite pick was the Ultex Jazz picks. They're great - a slight bit bigger than the regular jazz picks but with that same ultex feel. Actually, better than ultex because of the texturing.

Stone picks are good as too. :)

I've been asking my local stores about the Petrucci JIIIs and none seem to have heard of them. The only place that they seem readily available is E-Bay so I put in an order. My normal picks are the Max Grip Jazz IIIs because I have a tendency to drop picks. V-Picks are great until you drop them. Then they're tough to find. My only issue with the Max Grips is that they can be too grippy. When I go to tuck it into my fingers to do some fingerpicking, sometimes I can't get them out fast enough. I'm hoping that the Petrucci version might be a happy medium.

Did anyone else notice the similarities of this pick's shapes and textures to the teaser pics of the Majesty guitar???
I found that aspect rather interesting...

I had always been a fan of the Jazz III's but took a chance on these when I first saw them. I didn't like them at first but now I can't play without them.

Picks are an interesting topic, and really comes down to what ever turns you on is best for you. The Bass player in my band finger picks his strings mostly but when a pick is called for he loves his home made credit card picks. His wife found and bought him a machine that turns your old AMEX black and gold cards into guitar picks !!!

I like my fender medium, especially after a week or so when it gets a little shaved down, almost to a point, great shape for fast alternate picking and pinch harmonics.

Here's a size comparison. Very cool picks! I'm addicted to Jazz IIIs so the slightly larger size takes some getting used to but I really like them so far. They're not as slippery as the regular JIIIs but obviously not as grippy as the Max Grips. The real test will be if I drop them tonight at practice.

I've been an exclusive Tortex user for the past 4 or 5 years, mainly the purple but recently decided to try out some 'smaller' picks. I bought a couple of regular Jazz III's, a carbon fibre Jazz III, a Max Grip Jazz III and these Petrucci picks.

To perhaps cut a long story short, I really like the Petrucci picks and now using them over the Tortex which I have been using for years. It's only been a few weeks but I feel strange trying to use a Tortex now, they feel huge!

What I like most about the Petrucci is that they are a great middle ground between a jazz III for precision and fast picking and something which can be used still for strumming, as I found the Jazz III's weren't as versatile as I need them to be as they are so small.

The only downsides are that, although I understand the sleek black look of the pick is what Petrucci and his guitars etc seem to be about, I would have preferred them to be red, because as we all know, picks are easily lost! At least red or any other bright colour gives us half a chance of finding them again.

And secondly, more performance related, there have been a couple of times when I've been in the middle of performing a solo and the pick has got slippery under my fingers and takes me a few seconds to try and get it back under my grip, all the while still trying to carry on playing! Saying that, the JP raised logo on it works pretty well as grip under most conditions, just perhaps not as grippy as you might want it to be.

Definitely worth picking up a few to give them a try out at least.

I think this sums it up nicely. Practice last night was a success as I never dropped the pick. It didn't take long to get used to it and I think the middle ground is what I've been looking for. If they made it carbon fiber with the Max Grip bumps, it would be the perfect pick for me.

2mm Ultex Jazz III, black ones are my Excaliburs, they have a real bite onto the strings. But I've been trying the JP, little bigger and not as precise for fast scales, which is little ironic since JP is the master at that,

Ah the never ending quest for the right pick... I sometimes think that if I had just put away all the pennies spent on trying different picks over the years I might have enough for an Armada!

I like picks with a rounded tip,all this fuss about jazz 3 and similar things doesnt make it for me.If you play acoustic guitar its easy to notice a smallish and pointy pick has no tone.I use celluloid picks ,Fender ,Ernie Ball, dunlop etc.and the difference on acoustic is a big one,so on clean electric is just the same, but if you play with loads of distortion it doesnt matter what you use.
