Hi all,

I've recently got a new JP Majesty - which I'm thoroughly enjoying!

However, I've noticed an issue with the piezo pickup which is really bugging me. The balance across strings is quite inconsistent, 3rd is quiet and 4th is loud compared to the rest. I've measured as best I can through a DAW and I reckon there's a 6-8 dB difference between 3rd and 4th.

I'm a bit gutted to be honest, because it's such a beautifully balanced guitar otherwise.

Does anyone have any idea if there's anything I can do?

Things I have done:
checked batteries
checked magnetic pickups, which are consistent across strings in all configurations
checked in stereo and mono modes
checked in mag/piezo compbined - same result
looked briefly in the control cavity - no apparent control pots there
looked briefly in the neck cavity - what looks like the piezo control unit appears to be fairly sealed up with a single wire going through to control cavity.

I guess the next step is to go back to the retailer - but I'd HATE for it to have to go back to the factory as I'm in the UK, having only just got it, and it'll take forever to get there and back :( :( :(

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Andrew

Welcome to the forum family!

If you are under warranty there is a system in place to deal with this kind of thing. Talk to your dealer, who will in turn talk to the UK distributor (Strings & Things UK). And you can always contact Music Man customer service directly for advice on how to deal with it too.

In the mean time I'm sure some of the other forum members will be along with their ten cents.

Thanks Dr Kev.

Heading back to the dealer on Tuesday is the plan, but any other ten cents would be much appreciated from anyone else!

Update: problem solved!

It was a duff string!

I've never heard one quite like that before, but it was just dead and quiet. Swapped it out and the guitar is instantly perfect.

so relieved...
