Enough already.

I'm in the market for a new bass at the end of the month and I want something really nice. The trouble is, most of the basses I'm looking at are models that are nowhere to be found here in Minneapolis. I'm getting tired of posting questions online and calling Bass Central every other day. :(

Yesterday, I had a bright idea: I'm going to take my wife and I on a weekend getaway to Orlando and spend a morning at Bass Central so I can choose in person!

My wife is the one who bought me my first EBMM, a Bongo, and she thinks it's a GREAT idea -- she is really cool about the whole deal! (I know -- no pics, no wife so here you go: http://tinyurl.com/2dxlyr8]). I figure the two of us can get there late on Thursday, do The Harry Potter Theme Park, do Busch Gardens, perhaps Cirque Du Soliel, get a great Sunday Brunch and come back home -- and I get to buy a great bass!

Anyone here ever do anything similar? Also, what do I need to know about visiting Bass Central? Any caveats or warnings?

Let me know your thoughts!

Sounds like a neat idea, but I would phone them first, introduce yourself, tell them what you are interested to try and find out what they actaually have in stock to avoid disappointments. Good luck!

minus the trip to basscentral... i was stranded at the hotel, and a rental car was too much... $75 for a day..? this is what i did last weekend. My advice is if you really want to go to the Harry Potter theme park, which is great, stay at one of the Universal Orlando Hotels. They let you in the park an hour early to go to the park, and you can walk right into the shops and the rides. After the park opens, the wait just to get into the Village can be as much as 4 hours, and then there are more lines for the rides and shops.. Pretty much everything else at Universal you can just walk on with the line skipper pass afforded to hotel guests.

I have always dealt with basscentral and don't have enough good things to say about them. The one time i did make it into the shop, maybe 12 years ago. It was cool, but most of their inventory is still NIB and off the showfloor, and not available to try out.

Good Luck

I had a similar experience two years ago with my girlfriend - I needed to buy a double bass, and we made the lengthy trip to Stonington, CN, to the shop of Upton Bass. Calling ahead definitely makes the trip easier. In our case, the company head's wife even picked us up from the train station and drove us to the shop!!

There were no harry potter theme parks, but we did happen to catch the Flecktones opening for Chick Corea & Return to Forever in Boston...

I'd love to make a similar trip to Bass Central someday. Please let us know how it goes!

One Warning: Be prepared to deal with knowledgeable dudes who will give you outstanding service and a great deal. :D

Disclaimer: I do not work for, nor am I affiliated with Bass Central in any way. All I can say is that I have never had a bad experience with them - ever.

Do you take hitch hikers? Though I just got the ElecBlu Bongo V there I would like to check the place out.

I will give ya 10 bucks for gas and buy a McKee Dee breakfast!

Such a deal :)

I wish I could meet you there on Thursday but I have a house gig on Thursday nights and Bass Central is about 2 hours away (4 hours round-trip) and I try to avoid trips up there on gig nights for fear of getting possibly caught in a traffic jam which could lead to me being late for a gig.
