Your answers:
1)I recorded my Sterling direct to ProTools. I didn't use any bass preamp, compressors etc. I wanted it to sound as natural as possible.
2)My Sterling is a Maple board. And yes, there's a GREAT deal of difference in sound between the two, provided you use roundwound strings. When slapping, maple really 'shines'

As for the drum machine, as already stated, I import loops from Reason to ProTools. This beats any drum machine out there.
