What are the differences really?
I've read other posts regarding this, but the details as to what the differences are were lacking.
I know some prefer the look of one to the other!
From what I think I understand, maple has a slightly crispier tone.

Yes, maple is a little brighter. But mostly it's a look and feel issue, in my opinion. I much prefer the feel of rosewood, but I really dig the look of a nice maple fretboard!

Most people say "brighter", but I see and hear it more of an "attack" issue. Maple has a "snap", an immediacy in the attack when you pick the string. Rosewood I think "blooms" in the sound envelope.

I like hambucker's description of maple having a 'snap'. I can relate to that idea. I would say that if maple has a 'snap' to it, then rosewood has a 'pop' attack.
It's hard to describe, but I think we're getting close.
