:p

yep. hehehe.

I was lucky enough to see Alain Caron a few years back at a clinic and he did his slap version of Donna Lee which was quite impressive.

but me being ever the cynic i was all "that's well and fine and anyone can lock themselves in a room until their slppin' and poppin' gets precise and clean enough up to Be Bop tempos but can Alain reeeeally play anything 'groovey' with that"

....so after Alain finished his performance of Donna Lee he then went on to discuss his technique and just how to strive for consistency and accuracy and then laid down one of the funkiest grooves I have ever heard slapped on a bass.... the shame was instant for me :D

hehehehehe

mmmmmmm I am missing something?

That is Alain Caron playing from the first second of this clip.
And it is deffinately an F-bass. God awful trebly sound. brrrrrrrr
But maybe that is because of the audio compression of the clip.

He sounds great on CD though.
And he was twice at our school when I was studying music.
Sounds even better when sitting on the first row.

Great vid...I was very inspired by Alain Caron when I was starting out about 17 years ago. I saw him at an L&M clinic, later at 12th Fret in Toronto , I think, and at the Beaches Jazz Fest. His fretless work is truly awesome as well.
