Well I've been struggling with tone most of my playing years, and although lately I may have stated I was happy, well I did not know the true definition of happiness until tonight, for tonight the marriage between my JP7 and my new Vox Tonelab SE took place and man oh man I have found true happiness. I've plugged the Tonelab into the effects return allowing for the Vox's true tone and man I've never experienced tone like this before...un-friggin-believable, and Ive only played with two different settings...so it is now 11:30, and I got home with the Tonelab at 4:30...I believe that's a friggin record...later

Oh no! I didn't mean there was anything wrong with it, just that well, you have been through a few avatars in the last couple of months. I thought maybe your tone epiphany would result in a change. But by all means, the current one is spectacular! Or craptacular, if you will. ;)

Thank you very much! I'll be here all week! Try the veal! :D

As soon as you do or say something extra crazy, we'll make ya a new one! ;)

That's awesome about the tone! You know you'll have to get us some sound bytes so we can properly share the excitement with you!

While tone is a completely subjective matter, comparing something like a modeller to a tube amp is silly. In my 25 years of playing, tube amps are the best sounding, most responsive option. Modeling amps may sound good in your bedroom, but in real world applications(i.e. playing in a band with other people) they dont cut through with authority. Thats just my 2cents though. Its cool to get tones that are inspirational no matter how they are obtained.

I'm a tube amp tone lover too. But I think there are other real world applications that modellers are good for. Especially for the guy who is not looking to be a professional musician, but wants a whole lot of versatility in tones. I think they are also probably great for a guy who does a whole lot of home recording too. I can't say for sure, as I only own a pretty simple straight forward tube amp, but I wouldn't be quick to dismiss modellers as boxes with bad tone.

As a family guy whose family goes to bed early, there have been many nights I wish had a POD or something similar to play that I could use headphones with. Maybe for Christmas if I'm lucky!

mmmmmn...tone.

Best thing about finding yours is it inspires longer playing sessions and usually more inspiraton.

My tube amp is a vintage Deluxe Reverb. My modeller is a Boss GT-6 (that I run through a Tech21 Trademark 60). I can work in the mix and "cut through" when required just fine with either one, thank you... Modellers, like tube amps, are just tools... Learn to use the tool correctly, and it will serve you well... but approach a modeller like a tube amp, and ya, you'll almost certainly be disappointed...

Last night I was so tired, barely able to keep my eyes open, however I felt the need to go and play...next thing I knew it was 1:00 AM
Getting back to the tube thing one thing I have learned and come to appreciate from using the Tonelab is a deep appreciation for tubes. You see I have never really experienced tubes before, although I had a Peavey Classic 212 when I was a punk, that was 22 years ago. So with the Tonelab, I can get the tone I want even without pedals...now I know what tube owners have...last night I dialed in the Recto, gain full tilt and the thing sounded like a WWII plane dive bombing...unfrekinbelievable...and no pedal...when I tried a pedal it was too much.
Sure I can't get the EXACT tone of a Blues Junior or a Mesa 50/50, or a Carvin Legacy, but what I can get is years and years of sound simulation that is undoubtedly the best I have ever experienced...let's not forget that it not only models amps and cabs, but also well known boutique pedals, modulations and what not. To equip one with all of this would cost in the ten's of thousands. And comments about modellors being compared to the real deal being silly...well I'm no pro, but you can listen for yourself, then decide. BTW this isn't me playing.
Just scroll down to Tonelab.

Nice choice, Raz:

I bought my AD60VT when they came out in 2001, because I needed to be able to patch directly to the mixing board & disable the speaker.

I love my Vox and find that it does 95% of the real thing, but allows me to haul around one amp & no pedals. I have to be able to cover a wide variety of sounds, and its nice to program the set & just change sounds on the fly...

There is no finer sound than an Axis and a Vox AC15 at full tilt :D

Hey Raz,

I've been doing some reading on the Tonelab (since you've got me interested), what did you pay for it? If you don't mind me asking.
Did you buy it new or used?
