I just won an auction for an Axis. i feel kind of stupid but it just hit me that it has a Matchbook top! Not because i want to convince myself but i think i like it better than a flame? Is there a reason why they have matchbook now?

Uh, what? ;)

Some pictures of the guitar would help. I'm new to the EBMM arena (actually my first one is due 12/22!), but I think ALL the maple-top guitars are "bookmatched" maple, whether its flame or quilt. That just means they take a piece of maple, cut its THICKNESS in half like slicing a loaf of bread, and then open those "slices" like a book, laying them side-by-side when they apply them to the top of the guitar. That's my best definition of "bookmatched."

I hope that helps.

Don't think too much and enjoy your new Axe who cares Flame or Quilt as long as you like it :D

FYI:
The first pic is a "BOOKMATCHED" FLAME MAPLE TOP
the second isn't flame maple its QUILTED MAPLE.
In the past 20 years of buying, playing, studing guitar
never once have I heard or seen a "MATCHBOOK" top.
I think the problem lies more in the person who wrote
the item description for the auction. IMHO...
